Marine Electronics News

Greetings!

I took note that today is our 11th year anniversary of opening up the storefront on Seaway Drive.  Wow has time flown. I got started with this passion back in 1985.  Twenty six years later through good times and not so good times I still get excited with the ever changing technologies and challenges that are presented.

The Miami Boat Show was rather exciting this year and quite crowded as compared to last year. Lot's of new goodies in the Marine Electronics Room at the Convention Center.
The biggest buzz revolved around "CHIRP" technology. CHIRP is going to revolutionize fish finding with new sounders and transducers capable of penetrating the depths to 10,000 feet and providing unmatched resolution and target separation.  CHIRP will be a game changer! Currently only Simrad and Garmin are shipping CHIRP, Raymarine will be shipping soon, and Furuno is tight lipped.

FLIR's new M618CS thermal imaging video camera provides active gyro stabilization, ( No more dizziness from a rocking video image).

Garmin has introduced it's own line of thermal imagers that are controlled by their chartplotters.

I will highlight some of the new goodies in the articles below.

Start planning now, the Bahamas season is fast approaching!

Thank You all for the years of support!

These new displays are gorgeous, bright, and razor sharp. Control them with your iPad or iPhone!

Displays have a built in GPS antenna and models with and without an internal depth sounder. No "Black Box" required!
These displays are priced right!

For serious deep-sea sportfishing, the GSD 26 takes high-definition targeting to a whole new level. With a compatible transducer, the GSD 26's Spread Spectrum technology scans on multiple frequencies at one time, returning vast amounts of data to the receiver. As a result, you can expect precise, shallow-water-like target separation at much greater depths - up to 10,000 ft (3,000 m).

Here is a great screenshot

Rogue Wave gets Ruggedized!      Wave WiFi

Wave WiFI has done it again!  A big improvement on their revolutionary WiFi amplifier.  They have replaced the plastic housing RogueSSwith a sleek stainless steel case and a 1" theaded mount that will connect to traditional marine antenna mounts.  These are very welcome improvements that we have been after for a while.

For those that are not familiar, the Rogue is a very small 800 milliwatt WiFi amplifier that can increase the range of WiFi signals to 7 miles or more.

The new Rogue Wave is available now!  Come and get it!

    Fusion New 700 Series!

The next generation from Fusion has an impressive color display, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.  The new 700 has an ethernet port and an NMEA 2000 port on the back.
The ethernet port will allow you to connect to a wireless router and allow control and access from your onboard network.  Fusion even  has an iPad AP that will allow you to use your iPad or iPhone to control playlists, volume, tone, and all functons of the Fusion 700.
A new feature called "Fusion Link" will allow for third party vendors such as Raymarine, Garmin, Simrad, etc. to design an interface to provide control from their multifunction displays.

USCG Dauphin Helicopter on the golf course

Last week the Moorings Club in Vero Beach hosted a "Marine Safety Day".
Approximately 400 people attended and witnessed a Coast Guard helicopter rescue demonstration.  An EPIRB was deployed and the helicopter homed in on it and rescued a swimmer.  Visitors attended marine safety demonstrations and presentations.
We would like to thank the Moorings, Tom Corr, and Jeff Luther from the Indian River Sheriff's Department for giving us the opportunity to participate.
