Marine Electronics News

Greetings!

Boat show season is upon us!  The Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show is starting on October 28th and finishing on the 31st.  There are quite a few interesting new gizmos in the marine electronics world.

We just received a sneek peek at the NMEA annual convention in Sanibel last week.  (NMEA  is an acronym for The "National Marine Electronics Association".  www.nmea.org  Each year the manufacturers showcase their newest gear at the convention.  We also have the opportunity to attend training seminars and certification programs.

I will highlight some of the new goodies in this issue.

Simrad's new AP70 autopilot and accessories are groundbreaking.

Raymarine's new E7 touch screen displays with WIFI and iPad integration is the talk of thre town.

FLIR's new First Mate MS handheld Thermal imager is smaller and lighter than ever and it also costs much less than the original hand held.

OceanView thermal imaging cameras have a new image stabilization feature, and also provide a system which can be integrated with Furuno NavNet 3D systems. ( The camera can be viewed on the 3D display and also controlled from onscreen controls!)

See article insets for more details and more new products!

See you at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show.

We really were impressed with Simrad's new AP 70 autopilot.

It has a large robust sunlight viewable color display with a large rotary knob for easy course changes and menu functions.

The Simrad AP70 is the culmination of over 60 years of experience in the autosteering market. Simrad built the world's first autopilot in 1951 (the AP1) and we now bring you the next generation in autopilot systems.

The AP70 is a reliable and user-friendly heading control system for yachts and powerboats of any size, from 20ft to 100ft+ super yachts and mega yachts.

The AP70 is a state-of-the-art commercial grade autopilot which benefits from an unrivalled adaptive auto-steering system that has been designed for navigators who demand precision steering in all conditions.

The new colour AP70 provides an extremely flexible interface to a variety of steering systems including solenoid, pumps, analog interfaces or proportional systems, jets and thrusters.

Unlike many other autopilots, the AP70 can provide up to 6 individual scenario profiles and is compatible with an extensive range of remote controls and components; all controlled with an easy-to-use interface displayed on a vivid, 5-inch colour screen.

The AP70 is made from ruggedized aluminium, has a 5-inch bonded high sunlight viewable screen, and can be panel (flush) or bracket mounted. You won't find another pilot on the market that boasts the same performance, durability and versatility without the high cost.

Like all Simrad Yachting products, the AP70 is backed by a full two-year warranty that is supported by a global service network.

The new e7 is a feature rich MFD that sets a new standard for ease of use, performance, and connectivity. A networking wonder, the e7 breaks new ground with Wi-Fi streaming to Apple iPhones and iPads. Using SeaTalk HS networking you can connect up to six displays allowing you to see and control your data anywhere you need it.
Plus, Bluetooth puts you in control of the e7, and your music, right from your steering wheel. Powered by Raymarine's new LightHouse User Interface, the e7 offers a refined and intuitive navigation experience, enhanced by three powerful processors, delivering incredibly simple operation and lightning fast performance.
These new displays are incredibly bright and colorful.

Wave WiFI has done it again!  A big improvement on their revolutionary WiFi amplifier.  They have replaced the plastic housing RogueSSwith a sleek stainless steel case and a 1" theaded mount that will connect to traditional marine antenna mounts.  These are very welcome improvements that we have been after for a while.

For those that are not familiar, the Rogue is a very small 800 milliwatt WiFi amplifier that can increase the range of WiFi signals to 7 miles or more.

The new Rogue will be available soon with an expected retail price of $495
