Greetings!
It looks like we made it through another hurricane season unscathed. The weather is cooling down a bit and the holidays are approaching fast. It sounds like sailfish season to me! Time for the winter tournaments (See Below), and then it won't be long for Mexico and the Bahamas.
I saw quite a few customers and friends at the Lauderdale Boat Show a couple of weeks ago, and it was quite busy compared to the last few years. The electronics tent in a new location was very busy and nicely laid out. Garmin, Raymarine, FLIR, and KVH seemed to be the most popular booths. All had interesting and innovative products. KVH's New TracVision HD7
This is KVH's best TracVision Product developed.
No more switching from one satellite to the next, no more knocking someone in another room off their channel when you change the channel in the salon. There have been over a hundred of these installed in South Florida and the reports are excellent! The HD7 tracks better than any other period. We installed one on a 55 Viking Sportfish on the top of the tuna tower and the HD7 tracks without signal interuption in very rough seas.

FLIR & RAYMARINE
You may have heard the news, FLIR Purchased Raymarine. We are excited about this and already there is an interesting merge of technologies. The new T-Series thermal imaging camera ( FLIR M- Series) can be controlled by Raymarine's E Wide Series touchscreens.
Pan, Tilt, Zoom, and all camera functions can be accomplished on the touchscreen ( Much like an iPhone control).
If you already have a FLIR M-Series thermal imager we can make some minor programming changes to your camera and install new software in your E-Series and "Presto" you have touchscreen control.
NOTE: The Raymarine T-Series Thermal imagers and software upgrade for the E series will not be available until February 2011. We can make this happen now! We will use the same thermal imager, it will be branded FLIR instead of Raymarine, and we have the software to enable touchscreen use with the E-Wides!

Most Garmin marine products supplied and installed by Island Marine entitle you to a two year On Board warranty. What this means to you is that there will be no charge for the service call or labor to correct the problem. Retail stores and Internet shoppers cannot receive this premium service.

VHF It can save your life!
This month a small vessel left Palm Beach for a day of fishing. The boat did not return that afternoon as planned. The vessel experienced engine trouble.
Two and a half days later the boat was picked up by the US Navy 86 miles east of Jacksonville Florida. The boaters tried in vain to radio for help but no one would return their VHF calls. They could hear other vessel's conversing and could not understand why no one would answer them. It turns out that the VHF that they were using had a bad microphone. A simple radio check prior to leaving port could have prevented this. It is not enough to just listen! Schedule a service call and we can test the output power of your VHF and SSB radios.
