Pelican Yacht Club Greetings!

Fuel Prices are plummeting and the sailfish have shown up in surprising numbers early in the sesason.  Despite the tough economic times people are gearing up for the winter tournament season.  There are even some new boats on the circuit.  It is good to see some activity on the waterfront again after a slow summer.

The new Furuno NavNet 3D series has proven to be a an incredible system, of particular interest is the new UHD (Ultra High Definition) radar which is nothing short of spectacular.  The resolution is so good that it will define individual boats and docks at a crowded marina.NavNet 3D  For the tuna fishing enthusiast this radar has proven to be the best "Bird" radar ever produced.  With the NavNet 3d's UHD radar you can use a 12Kw radar with 25KW performance.
I have received information that Furuno is going to initiate a 20% increase in price about the time of the Miami Boat Show.  If you are on the fence about purchasing new Furuno equipment, now may be the time to do it.

An End To Analog

You've probably heard that analog televisions will need converter boxes to continue
working after Feb.17, 2009. If you plan to keep your analog television:
· Generally speaking, if your analog set is connected to a cable or satellite
service, you won't need a converter box. You may need a "digital cable" set-top
box, which your cable company will provide.
Your onboard KVH or SEATEL will continue to provide you DirecTV or Dish Network
programming.
· Existing analog VCRs, DVD players and video games will work with digital
televisions, but with limited resolution. Also, since the tuners in VCRs aren't
digital-ready, they'll no longer be able to
tape one program while you watch
another. You'll only be able to tape whatAnalog TV
you're watching.
· If you use an indoor antenna or "rabbit
ears," you will need a converter box.
For more information, call 1-888-DTV-

Perhaps it is time to upgrade to a new flat panel
High Definition television!

Nav-Tracker 2.0 Locates Stolen Boat In The Bahamas. Contender Recovered By US Coast Guard 12 Hours Later

A 34-foot Contender equipped with the Nav-Tracker 2.0 wireless boat location and GPS tracking system from Paradox Marine, stolen from Scotland Cay near Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas last month , was located by the system and recovered in the vicinity by the US Coast Guard about 12 hours later.
When a Nav-Tracker 2.0 transmitter is mounted discreetly on a boat, a wireless 'fence' with a 500-meter range is created. If a boat is moved outside of this fence, Nav-Tracker 2.0 uses Inmarsat based GPS satellite technology to monitor a boat's location and notify up to four people by email and/or text message every 15 minutes with the latitude/longitude, speed, heading and distance to the closest city.

As many as 27,000 boats are stolen annually and the odds of recovery are only about 1 in 10, according to the International Association of Marine Investigators. Alarms and other deterrents are not enough. However, with a Nav-Tracker on board, if your boat is stolen, you'll have a much better chance of getting it back.
The message transmitted from Nav-Tracker 2.0
on board the Contender when it was stolen would have been similar to this:
