July 13th - Senator Jim Hargrove
Jim HargroveThe speaker for this week is Senator Jim Hargrove who will talk about his work on the public safety budget, particularly in the area of juvenile justice.

Please feel free to bring a colleague, friend or prospective member. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the impact of the budget on crime in our state.

When the final budget was released, Hargove, Senate Chair of the Human Services and Corrections Committee said, "My top priority was to prevent the dismantling of our public safety system. We did that by preserving the key elements of our strategy to reduce the crime rate, reduce recidivism and to keep people from ever entering the system in the first place."

Log Pavilion Cleanup on July 16th

SEE YOU THIS SATURDAY MORNING AT 9:00AM AT OUR PAVILION FOR THE ANNUAL CLEAN-UP AND LANDSCAPING EVENT...

Plan to join your colleagues at 9:00 in the pavilion for coffee, orange juice and breakfast roll. Make it a family event and bring your spouse and kids. Soon after 9:00 we will all "hit the ground" and spend the next several hours planting, weeding, pruning cleaning etc.  We will be finished by noon.
Thanks to the great advice from Barb Anderson of Marshall's Garden and Pet (as well as her great pricing she offers us) we have many rhododendrons, ground cover, and several trees to plant, trees and shrubs that need to be pruned and replanted (last year we planted several too deep and they are not happy!)   Lots of Fun for everyone.

Please come dressed to get a bit dirty and bring your favorite rake, shovel, pruning tools etc.

We have been doing this since 1998 (in the early years at Sam Benn Park) and every year it's more fun.

What is the Rotary Year?

The term "Rotary year" has been used to signify Rotary's annual administrative period since at least 1913. An article in The Rotarian that July noted, "The Rotary year that is rapidly drawing to a close has been signalized by several highly successful joint meetings of Clubs that are so situated as to assemble together easily and conveniently."

The executive committee, at its April 1913 meeting, designated 30 June as the end of the fiscal year. This allowed more time to prepare financial reports and for changes to the schedule for reporting club membership and payments. Even The Rotarian changed its volume numbering system to correspond to the fiscal year (beginning with vol. 5, July 1914).

Since the executive committee's decision in 1913, the end of the Rotary year has remained 30 June.
