Over the past decade, much attention has been given to the fact that the aging baby-boom generation will create a spike in demand for the healthcare industry. Less publicized is the vacuum effect that the retiring baby-boomers will have on many other industries that employ large quantities of technical and analytical professionals, like engineering. America has progressed from a factory-worker society to a knowledge-worker society full of information technology professionals, scientists, engineers, etc. Unfortunately the largest percentage of these professionals will be exiting the workforce in the next few years. Will our current society be able to produce enough highly educated professionals to replace them?

Our progress toward zero

There is no shortage of applications for zero energy attempts.
Net Zero Energy

Over the last few years, there has been increased interest regarding Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB).  The influx of solar panels and wind turbines, increased levels of marketing for LEED Certification and Energy Star products, and the implementation of numerous programs and incentives for energy efficiency are all in an effort to eventually reach net zero for all buildings...but is it practical or even possible?
