Dear

Everyone (in a big or small way) is working towards a cleaner, greener future.

For my part, becoming a grand-father for the first time last year, has made me more conscious than ever about the kind of world we'll leave behind.

Anyway, I reckon it's always nice to know when things we're doing are ACTUALLY making a difference.

That's how I felt when I read the following bit of info:

The Australian New Vehicle Market recorded its lowest ever emissions figure, continuing a positive trend.

The result was driven by technology improvements and a change in consumer buying preferences.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries recently announced a national average carbon emission figure for 2010 of 212.6 grams of CO2 per kilometer - down 2.7 per cent on 2009.

In 2002 the figure was a whopping 252.4g, so we've come a long way since then.

FCAI chief Andrew McKellar said there had been a strong uptake in new-generation diesel vehicles, hybrids as well as constant updates to the traditional petrol engine.

Remember, Honda's new hybrid? The 5-door petrol-electric Insight is Australia's cheapest Hybrid.

You can see it here at Bunbury Honda.

Local Apex club cleans up!

You've probably heard us mention before that our Parts Manager Gavin Ladhams is an active member of the Bunbury Koombana Apex Club.

In fact, ACTIVE is a rather large understatement, since he is actually the Vice President, Secretary AND Service Director.

So he (AND WE) had good reason to celebrate recently when the club picked up an armload of awards at the Apex State Convention in Albany.

They were:

  • Trevor Gorey Service Award: for excelling in the field of service to the community ;
  • Bruce James Trophy: for highest average dinner meeting attendance
  • WA Apex Membership Trophy: for biggest membership growth AND
  • Young Apexian of the Year for Ebony Thomson.

Apex Club President David "Bear" Briggs said the club had put in over 1200 hours of Service Work in the past 12 months.

But it was the journey to Carnarvon to help clean up after the Christmas flood which clinched the major award.

Great stuff Bunbury Koombana Apex Club!
