Despite the fact I work with them at Bunbury Honda every day and we share a meal together every Tuesday night,
my wife Franca still thinks we don't see enough of our boys, Adam and Scott.
For this reason, Christmas this year is at Scott's place and he's planning on cooking something up on the webber.
He's not a bad cook actually but secretly I'll be hoping that whatever he bungs in that burner will end up burnt.
Sounds terrible doesn't it? But the taste of a good 'ole burnt chook would bring back so many wonderful Christmas memories for me.
When I was a boy growing up in Bunbury, our family Christmas went something like this:
We were kids so of course on Christmas morning we were up at Sparrow's.
Mum would put a roast chicken into the wood stove.
By 8.30am, we'd already been up for hours.
To us it felt like lunchtime so we'd jump in the car and drive over to the home of one of many family friends who, despite being no relation, were always referred to as "uncle" and "auntie".
The entry fee for us and everyone else who turned up was two Big Browns (bottles of beer).
The adults would have a few drinks and us kids would race around like maniacs, feeding our faces with the bowls full of nuts and lollies that were lying around.
We ate so many nuts it wouldn't have been a surprise if we'd turned into one.
It was always about 3 in the afternoon by the time we made it home and always, without fail, my dear mum would curse because she'd realise the wood stove was
still going, the roast was
still cooking and it was now burnt. We'd all have a good laugh about it.
Christmas just wouldn't have been the same without a burnt roast in our hot little asbestos house in Hayes Street I don't reckon!
How will you be spending your Christmas this year? If like many folk, you're hitting the road, it would be a wise idea to make sure your car is fit for the journey and being taken care of by a licensed motor repair business like ours.
You see,
from July this year the WA Government introduced new legislation requiring all businesses that repair motor vehicles for consumers or other business customers to apply for a motor vehicle repair business licence.
And before the licence was approved by the Motor Vehicle Industry Board, you had to be, or employ, a certified repairer for each class of repair work carried out.
It was something the motor repair industry had been lobbying the Government to introduce for many years believing it would improve standards, drastically reduce the level of unqualified backyard repairs and improve consumer protection.
Our team at Bunbury Honda has always been right behind the idea and in line with the new laws, we now hold a motor vehicle repair business licence and employ certified repairers.
