Greetings!
Hello everyone and thank you
all for being such wonderful customers to serve. This is the 4th
installment of the series "How To Take Control Of Your Healthcare".
In the last newsletter I shared with you about how to talk with your
doctor. I hope that in the occasion that you may need to see your
health care provider that these tips are helping.
Part of knowing how to talk
to your doctor is being prepared to talk to him or her. I suggested
writing down your questions in a small notebook so you won't forget
what to ask. So many times while visiting with my patients many
of them would be nervous, scared or even intimidated and ultimately
draw a blank. They would forget what they wanted to ask.
It is good to have questions and no question is "dumb". (Unless
you want to know if you'll ever be able to play the piano again, when
you never knew how in the first place)

Another time during the typical
doctors' visit that many patients forget vital information is during
the test. Yes, there is a test that most take without knowing;
it is a memory test! You know that part of the visit when the
receptionist, nurse or doctor asks you to recall your entire medical
history including all of your immunizations, prescription, surgeries
and diagnoses? Medical histories can become complex and voluminous.
No wonder so many have a tough time recalling so much information.
And this is information you do not want to forget. I remember
one of our dear patients who during "the test" forgot completely
about a very important medication they were on. It was the kind
of medication that as a patient going into surgery you wouldn't want
to forget. It had the potential to fatally alter the outcome of
that procedure. Fortunately we were able to catch it in time and
everything turned out great. Nonetheless you can see the importance
of having your accurate and complete medical record handy.
Most of us aren't aware that
we can have access to that holy writ known as "the medical chart"
It is a legal document and your healthcare provider has the stewardship
over the information but not exclusive to you. Did you know however
that in most states your healthcare provider only has to keep it for
two years? So what happens to the info after that? As long
as the chart is disposed of in an approved manner and the event is properly
documented these charts can be destroyed. I had a friend tell
me about an experience with his own records and his doctor. His
doctor suddenly passed away a couple of years ago, the practice was
acquired by another doctor and all of the records that seemed inactive
were destroyed. Still another patient told me that his doctors'
office burned down with all of the records. In each scenario there
was no way of retrieving important medical information.
I recommend that everyone ask
their doctor for a copy of their own medical record. In most cases
you will be charged for the service. The challenge with this is
that then you have to find a safe place to maintain it and then update
it every time you go to the doctor or have a medical event. Recently
I came across a wonderful technology that can make this very easy.
It is a simple USB thumb drive. So, we have partnered with a medical
information archival company to bring to you a way to keep your medical
records handy, current and in your control. It is the Dr. Tim's
MedRec key. Later this month we will roll out this new service
that will help every one. With all of the uncertainty of the future
of healthcare it will be very good to have your information under your
control.
Have Fun, Drink More and Live Active!

100% Pure Tamanu Oil
Natural Skin Care product from the South Pacific isles
Dr. Tim announces his newest cosmetic product - 100% Pure Tamanu Oil (Calophyllum Inophyllum). One ounce bottle.
The oil comes from Tamanu trees that grow in many tropical lands. The
Tamanu tree blooms every year with fragrant white flowers that turn
into clusters of yellowish-white fruits. The fruits are edible, but
it's the internal nut/ kernel in the fruit that is valuable.
After the kernels are extracted from the fruit and sun-dried for weeks,
they exude a sticky, dark oil that is cold-pressed to produce a clear,
yellow/green oil. It takes about 100 pounds of the fruit, to produce
just 5 pounds of pure oil. This explains the relatively high cost of
Tamanu Oil.
Native Polynesians were among the first to recognize the unique
qualities and benefits of the oil. It became their treasured skin-care
aid centuries ago, long before there were drug stores or markets where
they could buy protective cosmetics. They needed help as their exposure
to constant winds, high temperatures and salt water made it imperative
for them to find something they could use to protect and moisturize
their skin. Tamanu Oil was one of their greatest discoveries and the
trees came to be protected and sacred to them.
The natives still use Tamanu Oil for many other reasons: They
believe it alleviates pain from burns, including sunburn, for rashes,
open sores, small wounds, insect bites, bruises, joint pain, sciatica,
acne, psoriasis, arthritis, eczema, & rosacea. They also use it for
insect bites, blisters, diaper rash, shingles, bed sores, pimples,
abrasions, and infected nails. The Oil has also been used for sore
throats, muscle pain, boils, athlete's foot, dry or scaly skin,
infected nails and even abscesses. It also has anti-neuralgic
properties.
Tamanu Oil has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and
anti-fungal properties and is noted for promoting the formation of
healthy scar tissue and new skin growth,
Extensive research has been done on Tamanu Oil. It contains various
lipids, a unique fatty acid called calophyllic acid, an antibiotic
called lactone, anti-inflamatories such as a calophyllolide, coumarins
and anti-fungicide agents.
Tamanu Oil is, above all, a marvelous moisturizer. It's natural
and organic. If you have skin problems, Tamanu Oil may be your best
choice. Try it! Just a few drops a day and your skin should feel and
look better. Dr. Tim's Tamanu Oil does not contain other oil "fillers"
and is truly the pure Oil, nothing more.
How to use Tamanu Oil:
After cleansing your skin, preferably with Dr. Tim's Tamanu Oil
Soap, apply a few drops of Tamanu Oil and gently massage it into the
skin (use clean fingers or Q-tips).
The oil absorbs rapidly and does not leave a greasy film. Use daily
until you obtain relief.
Disclaimer: The FDA has not evaluated these statements and they should
not be misconstrued or intended as diagnoses, cures, treatments,
preventatives or professional advice regarding their use for any skin
disease or problem. Consult professionals for medical advice. People
with allergies to nuts of any kind should not use Tamanu Oil. Topical
use only. Do not take internally.
Testimonials:
"I have used Tamanu Oil for years. My son gave me a small bottle
of it, and after a long wait before opening the bottle, in some
desperation, I decided to try it. I had a bad case of rosacea, an
incurable form of adult acne. I had tried everything the dermatologists
prescribed, remedies that did nothing except cost me mucho money. After
only four or five days of use a few drops of Tamanu Oil to my face, the
unsightly redness of my swollen nose and cheeks went away, and the
painful postules dried up. The effects of the disease stays away as
long as I apply the oil once a month. What a relief! I also use it for
burns, small garden wounds, insect bites and rashes. It really works
for me." Pablo W.P.
"I have used Tamanu Oil on certain areas on my face where
spotty dryness has long been a problem. The Oil does the job of
moisturizing those areas remarkably well and my face looks and feels
better. Now my husband is using it, but I intend to buy him his own
bottle soon." Carol C.

Need Energy
& Want To Sleep Better?
Spring is a
great time of year. It is like a rebirth as we emerge from the
dark blanket of winter. For some, you might still be digging out
from the last round of snow storms. Nonetheless it is a time to
look forward to getting back outside and soaking in the warm sunshine.
The flowers begin to bloom, the trees are popping with blossoms and
the sun is up longer. One of the elements to a healthy lifestyle
that I have recommended in past newsletters is getting enough sleep.
I receive a lot of questions about this topic. Getting the right
amount of rest is very important to our health. Sleep is important
for concentration, memory formation and the repair of damage to your
body's cells during the day. Chronic lack of sleep increases the risk
for developing obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and infections.
Here are some
tips from The Comprehensive Epilepsy and Sleep Disorders Center at Baylor
Regional Medical Center in Texas on how to improve your sleep time:
- Control
caffeine. The cycle of downing a large cup of coffee to wake up
in the morning and more after dinner, whether out of habit or desire
to stay up late, counters the body's ability to sleep soundly on its
own. Go easy on the caffeine, especially in the six hours before bedtime.
- Stress
less. Lying awake at night worrying about responsibilities at home
or work does little besides making sleep more difficult, so just let
your troubles go at bedtime. "Once your head hits the pillow, your
only duty is to sleep," Raul Noriega, manager of the center, said
in a Baylor news release.
- Reschedule
that nighttime workout. Exercising helps your body, but doing it
too close to bedtime might hurt it in the end, because it makes falling
asleep more difficult. That's because sleep causes the body temperature
to drop about a degree and, if you're heated up from exercise, it could
take hours for you to cool down enough for sleep, Noriega said.
- Develop
a sleep routine. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every
day, even on weekends. Shut off the TV and music, turn down the lights
and take a warm (not hot) shower to build an atmosphere of calm. And
you might try reading in bed for a little bit before turning off the
lights.
- Dietary Supplementation.
I recommend adding Dr. Tim's Brazilian Acai to your diet. Below
you can see how it has been helping some of our great customers to get
better sleep.
"I started taking
Acai Berry juice 4 days ago, I am stunned. I have slept all night for
the 1st time in about 2 years and my energy levels are through the roof,
not to mention my mood, I am my happy go lucky old self again. Oh yeah
and my husband is pretty happy with my new sex
drive). I highly recommend this to anyone, young and old. I can attest
to all the above things and am sure that it is doing all the other things
it claims too....I am a believer and will continue to buy. I have now
recommended it to my mom recently diagnosed with diabetes as well as
other medical problems." - Shawn C.
"My wife and I have been
drinking Dr. Tim's Exotic Acai Juice for a week now. We sat down at
the dinner table and began to talk about the benefits of the regimen
and we realized that we had stopped drinking coffee in the morning and
never even realized it. We had not headaches, no
irritability, and no energy loss due the absence of caffeine in our
diet. We used to both drink coffee throughout the day spending about
$5 each at Starbucks but since we began drinking the Juice we no longer
need caffeine! Quite an unexpected benefit!" -
GY California
"I love the acai
I have a problem sleeping and the acai juice makes me rest all night
and I feel so revived in the morning. I mix with a little grape juice
and drink it down." - Dee P.

Not All Acai Is the Same!
Breaking News
April 2, 2009 St. George, Utah.
On March 30, 2009 Co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez hosted Keri Glassman a
registered dietician and Early Show contributor to speak about the benefits
of the super fruits. Ms Glassman explained
"Acai is known to be the 'beauty
berry' because it's known to be good for your skin, hair and nails.
Then we have Noni, which is supposed to support a good digestive system.
Then we have the mangosteen. Mangosteen is supposed to combat fatigue
and help fight infection. And then finally, we have the Goji berry.
And the Goji is supposed to support a healthy libido and make you happy.
It's known as the 'happy berry.' Who wouldn't want that?"
Glassman continued by saying ""We know that there's a lot of
scientific evidence supporting the fact that -- or claiming, supporting
that antioxidant fruits such as... blueberries and raspberries that
they may prevent disease and help prevent aging as well. However, the
specifics to these fruits are not at this moment proven." Scientists are showing everyday how antioxidants are vital to our health.
Glassman points out that they (Acai, Mangosteen, Goji and Noni) are
high in antioxidants, in which she is a huge advocate. However
it was unfortunate when Co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez of the Early Show
tasted a sample of the Genesis Today acai-100 and exclaimed
while grimacing from the taste of100% Acai "ugh, that
is terrible! I am sorry, that is not good! Kerri Glassman
agreed with her stating that it was "bitter" and
"strong." They then went on to discuss the "outrageously
high cost" of that brand of juice. At over $36.00 per
bottle retail it is very expensive. But Acai and the other super
fruits don't have to taste so strong and or bitter nor do they have
to cost so much. The public's demand for a ready to drink, good
tasting formula of these super fruit juices that delivers high percentage
of the juice at a reasonable price grows louder each day.
The good news is that there is a brand that delivers on potency,
quality, value and taste. The brand is Dr. Tim's Exotic
Juices. Dr. Tim is a retired surgeon who recognized after
years of practice the importance of good nutrition and the need for
high quality dietary supplements. "That is why we go to so much
trouble to find the best ingredients and keep them bioactive through
our Cryoflux cold concentration process" says Dr. Tim of Dr. Tim's
Exotic Juices." We used to provide a 100% juice until our customers
told us that they were mixing it with other juices. So right away
I knew we could do a better job." Dr. Tim formulated what is
now the fastest growing brand of super juices. "Our Acai
is over 85% Acai and is thick, rich, ready to drink and great tasting."
"I don't want the consumer to get the wrong idea that all Acai is
as distasteful as the one that Maggie Rodriguez on the Early Show demonstrated."
As soon as you open the bottle you will immediately recognize the superior
quality of Dr. Tim's Exotic Juices. Here is what people are saying
about Dr. Tim's Brazilian Acai:
"I
stumbled on www.brazilbotanicals.com by doing a search of acai juice.
I am so happy that I did. I have wanted to try acai juice for many years.
I purchased the Acai, Noni, Goji, Mangosteen juices. I loved them so
much that I just reordered. The taste of all the juices are wonderful....no
after-taste whatsoever. I am finding that I have a "calming"
feeling. I started a new "lifestyle" as far as my eating habits
since the beginning of 2009; I have lost 7 lbs thus far. I will continue
to re-order the juices each month. Everyone should try them".Donna
Z.
" I recieved my Acai juice today
and the taste is wonderful!!! We have been taking another brand that
tasted pretty awful, now I can't wait til we've finished that to start
on yours! I have one question, what makes the BIG difference in the
taste?? If you know what I mean. Seems so many things that are good
for you aren't especially good tasting. If I would give your juice a
score on a scale of 1-10 it would definetly be a big 10!! Do other companies
use concentrates to formulate their ACAI juice? Gratefully yours",
Georganna Y.
" I used to buy exotic juices
from a multilevel marketing distributor until I found Dr. Tim's Exotic
Juices. I researched the internet and found Dr. Tim's to be the best
in taste, quality and price. Why would people buy from anyone else?
Thanks Dr. Tim for your great products!" - Tom C.
Dr. Tim's Brazilian Acai, Thai Mangosteen,
Tibetan Goji and Polynesian Noni can be found at Harmon's grocery
stores in Utah, Albertsons' and your local health food stores.
You can also see them at www.brazilbotanicals.com.
