Spring is here! For many, the season marks a time to clean up and simplify. The return of sunny, warm days inspires us to get organized--quickly--so as to spend all the more time enjoying the changed weather. Accordingly, this edition of our quarterly newsletter focuses on subjects simple but good. As a friend of DHC, we invite you to read on to meet a recent homeowner, see how volunteers are supporting HAMMERS, receive a quick financial tip, and learn a few easy ways to support DHC and how another organization backs it as well. Thanks for reading; we'll see you outside!

"A Family Community"
When Stephanie Hanley moved to the area in 2004 to be closer to her sister in Cornelius, she knew that she wanted to live in Davidson.
What attracted her to the town was its "concern with how Davidson grows and in what direction it grows." Stephanie explained, "There is a good deal of time and effort put forth to keep Davidson a family community, and that was very important to me."

Many Hands for HAMMERS
Spring has proved a busy time for HAMMERS, DHC's emergency home repair program.
First, over the course of three weekends in March, the program received the help of three different volunteer groups. Working with HAMMERS Supervisor Zach Jakob, these volunteers represented Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Davidson United Methodist Church, and Davidson College's Pre-Medical Honors Society.
HAMMERS also is pleased to be a partner in Realtors Care Day, upcoming on April 24, 2009. The inaugural event will bring together hundreds of local realtors to make repairs on some 32 owner-occupied homes in Mecklenburg and Iredell Counties.

Housing and Financial Counseling
April's Financial Tip:
Spring is a wonderful season to begin again. Use this time of year to revive your financial mindset. As simple as it sounds, to get out of debt, we must first stop acquiring new debt. You don't need credit cards for a safety net, convenienvce, or cash back bonuses.
You can live within your means, and our monthly Financial Fitness seminars offer a great way to get started.
These two-hour sessions are held on the second Monday of each month. We'll see you there!
See the Housing and Financial Counseling Main Page for more information, including a calendar of all workshops in 2009
