DHC served over 400 people in 2008, including: 175 individuals in Homebuyer Education and Counseling programs 93 homeowners in the HAMMERS emergency home repair program 134 residents of DHC properties, including homeowners and tenants |
| Ralph Johnson House
DHC has completed the renovation of the Ralph Johnson House, a historic residence on the west side of Davidson With the incorporation of the Ralph Johnson House, DHC's Creekside Corner rental development provides a fourteen-unit mix of bungalow and duplex style units for families and individuals. The renovated home provides one three bedroom and one bedroom unit.
Education
DHC will offer homebuyer education and financial literacy programs throughout 2009, including Financial Fitness for Life, a program offering monthly financial literacy workshops for adults and youth, and Youth and Teen Programming, an initiative which partners with the Lake Norman YMCA's Teen Program and Davidson College's summer Freedom School, to provide basic financial education to middle school-aged youth. HAMMERS
The HAMMERS program is expanding its reach through volunteer initiatives with area churches and businesses. During three weekends in March 2009, for example, HAMMERS will work with three different local volunteer groups on local home repairs. The program aims to complete repairs on 50 homes in 2009. |
