Ride for Hope & Housing
Greetings!
Over the past few days here in Davidson, the change in the air has been perceptible; there's a crispness emerging as fall seems to arrive through the steady breeze.
For many, autumn's arrival may bring to mind images of pumpkins, coats and sweaters, and falling leaves. At Davidson Housing Coalition, the start of fall is a harbinger of another seasonal favorite: the Ride for Hope and Housing.
Since 2005, Davidson Housing Coalition has held the Ride for Hope and Housing, a bicycling fundraiser that brings together area cyclists, families, and businesses for a fun and challenging ride each fall. Cyclists who select either the 100, 50, or 25K course enjoy winding routes through the beautiful backroads of Mecklenburg, Iredell, Rowan, and Cabarrus counties, and families and children follow a 5K loop through scenic Davidson neighborhoods. Regardless of the distance traveled, all involved enjoy the thrill of getting outside to take a spin in the spirit of helping the community.
What better way to usher in the new season? |

Let's Ride!
Davidson Housing Coalition hosts the Ride for Hope and Housing as a cycling fundraiser to raise money for its affordable housing and emergency home repair programs.
This year's Ride for Hope and Housing will be our 4th Annual on Saturday, October 4th.
Catering to veteran as well as first-time riders, it features 100K, 50K, and 25K routes, and a 5K Family Fun Ride.
All rides start and finish from Davidson United Methodist Church, located at 233 South Main Street in Davidson.
The distance routes wind through the beautiful back roads of Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, and Rowan counties and are equipped with safety and gear vehicles and rest stops.
The 5K Family Fun Ride will begin with a bike safety check led by officers from the Davidson Police Department. Riders can look forward to fun prizes from Ben & Jerry's and Monkey Joe's before embarking on a well-marked loop through Davidson.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the church parking lot, and the 100K begins at 8:30 a.m., and the 50K and 25K routes departing soon thereafter. The Family Fun Ride gears up at 9:00, with riders departing DUMC at 9:30.
A t-shirt and water bottle are guaranteed for pre-registered riders in the distance routes and available to others while supplies last.
Pre-registration is $25 for adults and $5 for Family Fun Ride participants. Children 4 years-old and younger ride free.
Event details, pictures from last year's ride, and registration information are posted on our website at www.davidsonhousing.org, and riders can register at ActiveZach.com (now SportOften.com).
Last year more than 200 cyclists participated in the event. Join us today! |

Many ways to help
Volunteer opportunities abound for the Ride for Hope and Housing. From tasks ranging from helping with set-up and registration, food preparation, and event parking, we gratefully accept anyone wanting to lend a hand.
Prefer paper?
You also may register for the ride by requesting a registration form corresponding to either the distance routes (100, 50, and 25K) or the Family Fun Ride (5K). Return the form to our office before Friday, October 3rd to secure your "pre-registered" status, or bring a completed copy with you the day of the event to make registering on-site a breeze.
Note: cyclists who register the day of the ride cannot be guaranteed an event t-shirt or water bottle (distance routes) or prizes (Family Fun Ride).

Davidson Housing Coalition is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing for our lower-wealth families and individuals.
All proceeds from the Ride for Hope & Housing directly benefit DHC. Our programs include homeownership education, credit counseling, financial literacy workshops for youth and teens, and HAMMERS, an emergency home repair program that serves Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Mooresville. We also work with the Town of Davidson to implement their Affordable Housing Ordinance, requiring 12.5% affordable housing in all new residential developments for those who otherwise could not afford to live in our community-teachers, police officers, social workers, young professionals, administrative assistants and many others.
Thanks for taking the time to read about Davidson Housing Coalition and our October 4th bike ride. And again, welcome to fall!
Sincerely,
Nancy Waldrop Davidson Housing Coalition |
