New Centre to help families

AFC an asset to the community says Mayor of Islington
Girl

On 27th September the Mayor of Islington opened the Anna Freud Centre's new unit in North London for some of the city's most vulnerable families. Funded by a grant from the Department for Education's 'Improving Outcomes for Children, Young People and Families' fund, the Early Years Parenting Unit will work with families whose children are at risk of being taken into care.

The Mayor highlighted that by easing the formidable problems facing some families, the unit will improve the life chances of children under five and so have a positive impact on the community as a whole.

Over 500 people take part in the Open Afternoon

Plate spinning at Open AfternoonHundreds of parents and children from the local community came along to the Anna Freud Centre to get their faces painted, learn how to juggle, and take part in story time workshops delivered by top children's authors.

The event provided a great opportunity for volunteers of all ages to get involved with the work of the Centre, and for the first time we had a number of young people from local schools helping out on the day. Their invaluable contribution made this a really enjoyable day for all who came along and helped to improve the Centre's links with schools in the area. The event raised over £1000, and made many more people aware of the great work we do.
