Greetings!
Welcome to the third newsletter of 2009.
In this issue we bring you news about two projects; one reaching out to families in need and one working with vulnerable mothers and their babies. We hope you will enjoy reading about these new developments.
We do hope you can join us on Sunday 20th September for our annual Open Afternoon. It is not too late to donate a raffle prize or to volunteer to help on the day - please see below for more details.
We are so grateful to all our donors and supporters for continuing to make our work with children, young people and their families possible.

Fourth Annual Open Afternoon Sunday 20th September 2009
|
This year's Open Afternoon will be held on Sunday 20th September
from 2.30pm to 5pm at The Anna Freud Centre. Please note that the date
has changed from the originally advertised date of the 13th September.
There will
be many fun, free activities for children, including face painting,
arts and crafts, a penalty shoot-out, juggling workshops, clock making,
baby massage, a raffle and refreshments. There will be an opportunity for families to
learn more about what we do at the Centre as well as to enjoy a fun afternoon.
If
you are interested in getting involved with this year's event, we would
be most grateful for your support. We always welcome help on the
stalls, donations for our raffle and tombola, arts and crafts materials
and outdoor toys. Alternatively, please do just come along with your
families and enjoy the activities.
Please contact Louise Louise.Hewitson@annafreud.org or 020 7794 2313 if you are able to volunteer to help in any way for this event.

New Grant offers lifeline to families in distress
|
When
children and young people experience emotional difficulties the whole family is
affected. It is often difficult to access help; this increases the pressure on
the individuals affected and on already strained family relationships. Easy-to-access
services with short waiting times can be a lifeline for families.
The Anna
Freud Centre's Family Support Service offers help to parents,
families and children. A new grant
from the John Lyon's Charity will enable this service to continue and develop
over the next three years. Dr Nick Midgley explains the difference this will make to
families desperately seeking help:
'The service offers help to families with school-age
children, where there are worries about the child's behaviour or emotional
well-being. We know that families often struggle to find the right help at the
right time, so our consultations are easy to access, quickly provided and free.
The grant from the John Lyon's Charity will allow us to increase the
number of families supported by the Service and to develop and evaluate this
exciting new approach to working with children and young families.
Professionals from across the UK and around the world have already shown interest in the new
ways of working that the Service is developing and we hope to make a real
difference to the emotional well-being of families through
conferences, trainings and publications.'
