To increase awareness and educate parents about H1N1, the CDC developed a podcast 2009 H1N1 Information for Parents who have Children with High-Risk Medical Conditions. This 8 minute podcast serves as a great tool for all child care leaders to disseminate to their constituents, colleagues and even friends and family that have or work with children. It may be accessed at the following link:  http://www2c.cdc.gov/podcasts/player.asp?f=393367.

A new study published in the November 2009 International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity found that inappropriate clothing may be an important barrier to children's physical activity in child care settings, particularly if the clothing of a few children preclude physical activity for the remaining children. The study also found that clothing choices were a significant source of conflict between parents and child care providers. Inappropriate clothing items included: no coat/hat/gloves in the wintertime, flip flops or sandals, dress/expensive clothes, jewelry, and clothes that were either too loose or too tight. Access the study (15 pages) here.
