What's New This Week? 

 

Be a Voice For a Child

CASA are currently recruiting volunteers for a volunteer training series that will begin on July 7th. Community members that are interested in how they can make a difference in a child's life are encouraged to call or email for more information: 765-423-9109, ext. 4 or [email protected] Application information is also available on county website:  www.tippecanoe.in.gov/casa  

 

Volunteer then go Dancing!

Greater Lafayette Commerce are looking for volunteers for the 20th Annual Dancing in the Streets festival on July 16th. They are seeking volunteers to work three hour shifts at admission gates and ticket booths, set up, tear down, entertainment change over, working car registration, help at information tent, and also need certified fork lift drivers. Mounds of Clothing

Trinity Mission Outlet Store are looking for volunteers to help sort through clothes that have at the store. They would like 20 volunteers to help for 4 - 5 hours. If interested contact Todd at 765-742-1060.

 

I need an Attorney

Tippecanoe County's Teen Court is in need of youth volunteers ages 12-19 to participate in Teen Court as a Prosecuting or Defense attorney. No experience is required and training is provided. Teen Court is a diversion program designed for Juvenile offenders to teach them about the justice system and the consequences for their actions before they become part of the traditional justice system. SummerFest 2011

Community Reformed Church is having a SummerFest to raise funds for Food Finders Food Bank on July 9th. They are in need of volunteers to help them set up, serve meals, and clean up after the event. CRC would appreciate any volunteers to help at this fun event and help raise $$ for Food Finders! Groups Welcomed!  Contact Danielle at Food Finders to sign up today!

 

Hang out at the Golf Course

Almost Home Humane Society is in need of 6 volunteers for its annual Ace-Brown-Smith Golf Outing on July 15th. Volunteers are needed from 12:30 to 5:30 to watch for golfers who may get a hole-in-one on one of the six special holes. This is a great opportunity to spend the afternoon on the golf course and help the animals of Almost Home! For more information or to sign up, contact Stacy or 474-5222 ext 301  

 

Become part of the Zoo Crew!  

It is time for the 9th Annual Zoo Run Run on July 16th and the Friends of Columbian Park Zoo are in need of volunteers to direct runners along the route, serve water at the water stations, assist at registration tables and other similar duties. All pre-registered volunteers will receive a t-shirt and breakfast! If interested or have questions, visit www.zoorunrun.com

Give an autisic child summer camp 

The Arc of Tippecanoe County is seeking a volunteer to work with and play with a child at Camp SPARKS (Summer Play And Recreation for Kids with Special needs).  The child is 6 years old, non-verbal and has autism.  Experience working with kids with autism is necessary.  The hours are 12:30pm - 5:00pm Monday through Friday starting now through July 15.

Bingo!

Lafayette Transitional Housing Center is gearing up for their Bingo Extravaganza on August 4th at University Plaza hotel. They need volunteers to solicit donations, both financial and in-kind, from local vendors. For more information call 765-423-4880 or email Jennifer   

 

Do You Like to Hang Out with your Elders?

The Center @ Jenks Rest is looking for volunteers of their gift shop and reception.

 

Gift Shop Volunteer: Tuesday and Thursday (9am to 2pm; full or half day shifts) Volunteer will greet customers, assist customers with merchandise, watch over the gift shop and ring up sales.

 

Receptionist: Monday to Friday (8:30am to 3:00pm; full or half day shifts) Volunteer will greet all people that enter the building, answer the phone, direct calls/take messages, recourd donation and make calls to verify appointments.  

 

Book Cycle Seeks Volunteers 

This is your change to assist pre-school children in selecting and exchanging books at Head Start and the Tippecanoe County Childcare Centers. Volunteers must be able to commit to ONE time slot each week for approximately 2 hours. (Thursday is 9-11AM or 1:30-3:30PM and Friday is 9-10:30AM) Please contact Colleen Reader or call 765-567-4088 for more information.  


The Lafayette Urban Ministry Homeless Shelter  is in need of summer volunteers to spend the night. Three volunteers are needed nightly. The volunteers take turns staying awake and are able to sleep for 6 hours in the volunteer room. The hours are from 8:30pm-7:00am. LUM is also in need of afternoon receptionist for the front office from 12:45pm-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. This person is able to work different days each month or the same day each week (flexible). Tasks include answering the phone, greeting clients and directing clients to the appropriate staff. Occasionally there will be light clerical tasks. Contact: Sylvia Mohler, or call 765-423-2691.

 

Volunteers are urgently needed to distribute food at the St. John's/LUM Food Pantry, which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9 to 11:30. (Volunteers work from 8:30 until noon.) Typically, each volunteer works once a month. Call 765.463.6158 or email Jane

 

Delivery Service Needed!  

Meals on Wheels is in need of people who are willing to donate a couple hours of their time either on a weekly or fill-in basis. You will need your own car to deliver meals to elderly and disabled recipients of the program. To volunteer contact Nichole Hallada
