  Kindergarten Countdown Camp

United Way of Greater Lafayette and Indiana University Health are giving children in Lafayette a jump start on kindergarten this summer to help them transition successfully into school.

Kindergarten Countdown is a free, four-week summer camp provided for children who have little or no preschool experience. The camp is designed to build and strengthen a variety of different skills that children will need this fall such as phonemic awareness, letter and number recognition, shapes and colors and other social and behavioral skills. Lafayette's camp is being held at Miller Elementary School and is taught by certified kindergarten teachers.

IU Health Arnett employees are also supporting the program through the statewide 7,500 member employee volunteer program, Strength That Cares. IU Health volunteers are serving as "classroom buddies," assisting camp teachers with basic classroom activities like reading to campers and helping with lessons.
