Stamp Out Hunger 2011 is set for this Saturday May 14 which annually collects 70,000 lbs of food for those in need.   

 

It is the 18th year for this food-raising partnership between the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 466 and Food Finders Food Bank.

Bingo!

 

Lafayette Transitional Housing Center is gearing up for their Bingo Extravaganza on August 4th at University Plaza hotel. We need volunteers to solicit donations, both financial and in-kind, from local vendors.  For more information, call

The Center @ Jenks Rest

The Center @ Jenks Rest is looking for volunteers for their gift shop and reception.

 

Gift Shop Volunteer: Tuesday and Thursday (9am to 2pm; full or half day shifts)   Volunteer will greet customers, assist customers with merchandise, watch over the gift shop, and ring up sales.

 

Receptionist: Monday to Friday (8:30-3:00; full or half day shifts)    Volunteer will greet all people that enter the building, answer the phone, direct calls/take messages, record donations, and make calls to verify appointments.

 

Calling All Gardeners

 

 

 

The Fowler House gardens of Tippecanoe County Historical Association need volunteers to adopt  some shrub beds for the  summer.  For more information, contact Larry Rose at larry47905@comcast.net

  

 

 

Looking for a leader

 

The ARC of Tippecanoe County is looking for an Executive Director. This organization has been wonderfully run by dedicated volunteers but is now ready to hire a leader.

LUM position available 

Volunteer afternoon receptionist for the front office from 12:45pm-4:30pm, Monday through Friday. This person is able to work different days each month or the same day each week (flexible). Tasks include answering the phone, greeting clients and directing clients to the appropriate staff. Occasionally there will be light clerical tasks. Sort, Sort, Sort!

Food Finders Food Bank needs volunteers to help with the annual Stamp Out Hunger/Letter Carrier's Food Drive on Saturday, May 14th, 2011! Will be working at two locations, The Lafayette Post Office on 26, and the WL Federated Church. There are three shifts available for volunteers at each location: 11am-1pm, 1-3pm, and 3-5pm.  

 

For recurring opportunities, Food Finders has the following options:

  • A volunteer to drive our vehicle delivering baked goods on Wednesday afternoons to a few sites in Lafayette area
  • A volunteer to drive our vehicle to deliver baked goods on Thursday afternoons to a few sites in Lafayette area
  • 2-4 volunteers to sort donated baked goods/sweets here at Food Finders food bank on weekday mornings

Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center 

They are currently looking for adult volunteers to help with both our summer horse riding program and summer horse camp program. Training is provided.

The 3rd Annual Open Benefit Horse Show is June 18th, starting at 11am and is their major fund raising event of the year. Book Cycle Seeks Volunteers 

This is your change to assist pre-school children in selecting and exchanging books at Head Start and the Tippecanoe County Childcare Centers. Volunteers must be able to commit to ONE time slot each week for approximately 2 hours. (Thursday is 9-11AM or 1:30-3:30PM and Friday is 9-10:30AM) Please contact Colleen Reader at careader@hotmail.com or call 765-567-4088 for more information.  


The Lafayette Urban Ministry Homeless Shelter information is is need of summer volunteers to spend the night. Three volunteers are needed nightly. The volunteers take turns staying awake and are able to sleep for 6 hours in the volunteer room. The hours are from 8:30pm-7:00am. City of Lafayette

Help feed the hungry

Volunteers are urgently needed to distribute food at the St. John's/LUM Food Pantry, which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9 to 11:30. (Volunteers work from 8:30 until noon.) Typically, each volunteer works once a month. Call 765.463.6158 or  JVanable@frontier.com

Lafayette Crisis Center are taking applications for their summer volunteer training. Training Schedule: Every Tuesday from 6pm - 10pm June 7th - July 26th. If you would like to train to become a good listener call today to sign up! 765-742-0247

Come play with baby things! 

The Riggs Community Health Center is in search of 3 or 4 volunteers to assist with the Baby Corner Program. Staff the store one Wednesday of each month from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. Also to re-stock the store and monitor inventory after the store closes on Wednesdays from 3-3:30 p.m. A minimum commitment of six months is required. Have you ever thought about being an Attorney?   

Teen Court is a diversion program designed for Juvenile offenders to teach them about the justice system and the consequences for their actions before they become part of the traditional justice system. Teen Court is a sentencing hearing for 12-17 year olds who have already admitted guilt in the crime they committed. Volunteers are needed to prosecute or defend these teens to ensure that they learn from their actions. Court is held most Tuesday Nights from 5:00 - 7:15pm. Delivery Service Needed!  

Meals on Wheels is in need of people who are willing to donate a couple hours of their time either on a weekly or fill-in basis. You will need your own car to deliver meals to elderly and disabled recipients of the program. To volunteer contact Nichole Hallada at nhallada@mealsonwheelslafayette.org.

 

Do you like children and horses?

Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center is in need of volunteers to help during riding classes.  You will work with our special riders and great horses and they provide equine assisted programs for persons with disabilities, youth at risk, and children who have been abused or neglected.  No experience is required and training is provided.  Please contact Therapeion at  therapeion@yahoo.com  or 765 414-8066 for more information.
