2011 Leaders of Tomorrow

Summer Volunteer Program

 

"Oh,ThePlacesYou'llGo!"

 

Do you know a youth 11-15 who might want to get involved in the community this summer? 

As a Leader of Tomorrow they can do all of these things! 

 

Program Specs:

  • Volunteer at a non-profit agency this summer
  • 2 Sessions to choose from:
    • Session I - June 6th - July 1st 
    • Session II - July 5th - July 29th
    • Both sessions
  • T-shirts and Wrap up Party (August 2nd - 5:30 - 7:30pm)
  • Learn positive values, leadership, communication, citizenship and personal responsibility while having fun!
  • Applications can be mailed to you or sign up online: http://uwlafayettevolunteer.org/LOT.html  

Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 11-15 for participants or 16-18 for leaders
  • Be available 2 days a week for 1-4 hours a day (2-8 hours total per week)
  • Must attend an orientation at United Way (May 31st or June 2nd)
  • Must abide by policies of the program and write in a reflection journal
  • Be reliable, excited to learn and help others!
  • $15 fee for the program

Want to help out the Mayor's office?

City of Lafayette
is looking for volunteer(s) to sit at the information desk at City Hall. Flexible shifts available between the hours of 8-4:30 Monday - Friday to help direct people within the building. For further information, contact awood@uw.lafayette.in.us or 765-742-9077 x 222

TACT Call Out

Bauer Community Center TACT (Teens Affecting Communities Today) is having a call out for volunteers May 2nd. TACT is a group of Youth ages 11-18 that join the community to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for the Youth. Help our Youth become Entrepreneurs!

On Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hundreds of lemonade stands will be set up throughout our community. Greater Lafayette Commerce are currently seeking volunteers for Lemonade Day on May 1st from 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.  They have several site locations and need two volunteers at  each location.  It is a great way to assist early entrepreneurs in our community.  All volunteers receive a Lemonade Day shirt and the opportunity to help promote youth in the community. Want to take care of the spring babies?

Wildcat Wildlife Center are having a workshop Saturday April 30th to get ready for the new spring babies.  If you would like to help please contact Sheri at sherimeade@yahoo.com

Help feed the hungry

Volunteers are urgently needed to distribute food at the St. John's/LUM Food Pantry, which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9 to 11:30. (Volunteers work from 8:30 until noon.) Typically, each volunteer works once a month. Call 765.463.6158 or  Vanable@frontier.com

Sort, Sort,Sort!

Food Finders Food Bank need volunteers to help with the annual Stamp Out Hunger/Letter Carrier's Food Drive on Saturday, May 14th, 2011! This is Food Finders' largest one-day food drive, bringing in close to 75,000 pounds of food in 2010! Volunteers are needed to help sort and separate food that the letter carrier's drop off into glass, canned, and boxed items. Will be working at two locations, The Lafayette Post Office on 26, and the WL Federated Church. There are three shifts available for volunteers at each location: 11am-1pm, 1-3pm, and 3-5pm.


Are you a good listener?

Lafayette Crisis Center are taking applications for their summer volunteer training. Training Schedule: Every Tuesday from 6pm - 10pm June 7th - July 26th. If you would like to train to become a good listener call today to sign up! 765-742-0247

Come play with baby things! 

The Riggs Community Health Center is in search of 3 or 4 volunteers to assist with the Baby Corner Program. Staff the store one Wednesday of each month from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. Also to re-stock the store and monitor inventory after the store closes on Wednesdays from 3-3:30 p.m. A minimum commitment of six months is required. Have you ever thought about being an Attorney?   

Teen Court is a diversion program designed for Juvenile offenders to teach them about the justice system and the consequences for their actions before they become part of the traditional justice system. Teen Court is a sentencing hearing for 12-17 year olds who have already admitted guilt in the crime they committed. Volunteers are needed to prosecute or defend these teens to ensure that they learn from their actions. Court is held most Tuesday Nights from 5:00 - 7:15pm. Delivery Service Needed!  

Meals on Wheels is in need of people who are willing to donate a couple hours of their time either on a weekly or fill-in basis. You will need your own car to deliver meals to elderly and disabled recipients of the program. To volunteer contact Nichole Hallada at nhallada@mealsonwheelslafayette.org.

 

Do you like children and horses?

Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center is in need of volunteers to help during riding classes.  You will work with our special riders and great horses and they provide equine assisted programs for persons with disabilities, youth at risk, and children who have been abused or neglected.  No experience is required and training is provided.  Please contact Therapeion at therapeion@yahoo.com  or 765 414-8066 for more information.
