YWCA Opportunities
 

There will be a volunteer callout from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, at the YWCA, 605 N. 6th Street, Lafayette. This callout is for ages 18 and up and will highlight volunteer needs for each YWCA department and special events. If you cannot attend but would like to volunteer, please contact Ericka Lee at 765-423-7029 or elee@ywcalafayette.org. The volunteer application form and examples of volunteer opportunities are posted at www.ywca.org/lafayette/volunteer.

Keys to Volunteering
 
 1. Research the organization.
 2. Get a written volunteer job description.
 3. Talk with staff and other volunteers to make sure it is a good fit.

Almost Home Humane Society will be holding orientations for anyone interested in becoming an AHHS volunteer on Saturday, January 29 at 11 AM and Sunday, February 5 at 11 AM.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Almost Home volunteer program is welcome to attend.  Please RSVP to Stacy Rogers, stacy@almosthomehumane.org or (765)474-5222.

 
Lafayette Urban Ministry
 
Is now accepting applications for a Volunteer Afternoon Receptionist at the 420 N. 4th Street, Lafayette office. The volunteers will be responsible for greeting visitors, answering telephones and general office tasks. Positions are available for one or more afternoon(s) per week, or a minimum of twice per month. Caregiver Companion
needs volunteers to visit, drive and help the elderly or ill in Tippecanoe County. If you would enjoy helping someone with transportation, errands, light housework, laundry, etc. we have quite a few situations in the area for you to choose from. Volunteers can give as many or as few hours as your schedule will allow.

 
Food Finders Food Bank  

We're looking for 2 volunteers (to go together) to come to Food Finders Wednesday and Thursday afternoons each week to take and drop off baked goods (breads, sweets, etc) to several outlets for us (most are apartment complexes in town). They can use our Food Finders van and it would take about 3 hours each day/afternoon.

Also looking for REGULAR food sorters! This is normally done weekday mornings (M-F) from 8-11am or 9-12noon, but it's flexible. We welcome any ages above 16 to be regular sorters. We are looking for individuals who can commit to coming at least one day a week for 3-4 hours in the morning, or as many days a week as you'd like!

Point in Time Homeless Count takes place at St. Ann's Soup Kitchen in downtown Lafayette, from 7:30-11:00AM Wednesday January 26. You can sign up for one of the training sessions by visiting http://www.in.gov/ihcda/3120.htm
 

At Serenity Hospice, volunteers are needed to visit with patients. Would you be a light in someone's life and help to brighten up their remaining days? There are also patients in nursing homes who need the same "TLC" and would be pleased to have a visitor to help pass the lonely hours. Training is provided for volunteers. Riggs Community Health Center

The Riggs Community Health Center is in search of 3 or 4 volunteers to assist with the Baby Corner Program. Staff the store one Wednesday of each month from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. Also to re-stock the store and monitor inventory after the store closes on Wednesdays from 3-3:30 p.m. A minimum commitment of six months is required. Wildcat Wildlife Center

is seeking volunteers who can give 4 hours a week to help with the following: baby feeding, animal care, maintenance, cage building, clerical & data work, rescue, phones or grant writing. The center is in Delphi, Indiana.

Art Facilitator/Volunteer
Join the co-founders of Circle of Friends in facilitating art projects for area residents with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.  Our Art & Lunch program meets each Thursday from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. as a way to offer creative art opportunities for area residents living with memory loss.  You're a good match for the program if you can volunteer at least twice a month, are a good listener, have (or willing to learn) patience, love sharing the joy of creative expression with others.  Any type of art experience is helpful so email or call to learn more about volunteering with us. suzan@circleoffriendslafayette.org


Lafayette Urban Ministry Food Pantry
Volunteers are urgently needed to distribute food at the St. John's/LUM Food Pantry, which is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings from 9 to 11:30. (Volunteers work from 8:30 until noon.) Typically, each volunteer works once a month. Call 765.463.6158 or email JVanable@frontier.com

Westminster Village is currently seeking a volunteer to lead chair exercises on a weekly basis for residents.  This volunteer should be wanting to work with senior adults and have an interest in fitness.  Training will provide the proper equipment and exercise procedures. They are also seeking a volunteer to lead a small book club with residents.  Volunteers will help lead discussions.  Meetings will take place the last Friday of each month at 1 p.m.


Website Assistance Projects


The Diversity Roundtable is looking for a volunteer webmaster for their website.  This volunteer will be in charge of updating the website and posting all new information. The group meets the first Thursday of every month
