KECC CHRONICLE - SEPTEMBER 23, 2011
|
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK - CHANGING LIVES
The KECC Mid-Term Rally: What "People Helping People" really means...
Cabinet and Constitutional Office leadership joined Campaign Coordinators and Volunteers at the Mid-Term Coordinator Rally this Wednesday at Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort. The Mid-Term Rally is an annual event celebrating the generosity of state employees and the work of the KECC Charities. Secretary Marcheta Sparrow, the 2011 KECC Chair, applauded the many volunteers around the Commonwealth for their commitment to helping others through their hard work. Coordinators shared their latest Campaign totals and information about upcoming special events.
But the real highlight of the meeting was the story of a dad and his son, and the ten beautiful children who came with their parents to thank Kentucky employees for their help.
John Good and his father, Jack, shared their experience with Special Olympics Kentucky, an agency funded by the KECC Charities. Because of your investments through KECC, John has been able to achieve his goal of not only competing in the Special Olympics, but bringing home medals in Golf, Bowling, Swimming and Softball. John proudly displayed these awards as his father explained how, in addition to his athletic achievements, John enjoys working and spending time with his girlfriend of over eight years. Because of the support of organizations like Special Olympics, John, and countless others facing unique developmental challenges, are able to lead productive, independent lives.
Krista Hudson, Executive Director of P.U.S.H. Early Childhood Development Center in Frankfort explained how because of KECC donations, P.U.S.H. is able to provide children with special needs with same learning experiences that are available for typically developing children. Ten of these children, accompanied by their mothers, joined Krista in thanking state employees for their commitment to giving every Kentucky child a great start.
The KECC Charities would like to thank Krista, John and Jack, as well as our cabinet leadership, coordinators and volunteers for making the Mid-Term Rally such an inspirational event! Note: Our next rally is Wednesday, October 5 at 9:00 a.m. at the Department of Aviation. See you then!

It's time to pick up the pace! All hands on deck! We are still on pace with last year's campaign, but more people than ever are turning to the KECC Charities for assistance. It is important for our Kentucky communities that we aim higher! Now is the time to start planning your final push to reach your Cabinet, Department and Office goals!
Remember, goals are just numbers, but those numbers add up. They add up to a better life for a child born with Down Syndrome or an older adult with Alzheimer's Disease. They add up to help for a young child whose family can't afford school supplies and hope for a parent struggling to make ends meet after an injury or a layoff. The people who seek assistance from the six KECC Charities are just like you and me. In many cases, they are our friends, neighbors and coworkers. Take another look at your KECC brochure. Every one of us has either been directly affected by one of the Charities, or knows someone who has.
Now is the time to gear up! Now is the time to make sure EVERY state employee has received a pledge form and the chance to give! Make a call. Ask the person next to you if they have made a pledge yet. Spread the word that KECC helps people when they need help the most.
And remember, if you need help advertising an event, send the details to Kevin at kevin.middleton@uwky.org. Looking for a charity speaker to come to your office for a campaign group meeting? Contact Deby today at deby.davis@uwky.org! Here are the current results:
