Darlene's story - Hope in Eastern Kentucky

When Darlene contacted the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) to ask for assistance with her home, she didn't know where else to turn.  When CAP volunteers went out to meet her and see what could be done, they found Darlene to be a friendly, elderly woman making the best of a tough situation.

Darlene's Story

She was living in an old, single-wide trailer that was drafty and cold in the winter and exceedingly hot in the summer.  The windows wouldn't shut properly, the doors were warped and the porches were falling away, making it difficult to enter and exit.  Time and water had taken a toll on the house, making it nearly uninhabitable.

The trailer was put on the list for the upcoming "Workfest", CAP's alternative spring break for college students.  Over 400 students representing 44 colleges across our nation came to eastern Kentucky this year, to repair roofs, add insulation, replace windows, and generally help people that needed help.

Today, Darlene is very grateful that her home is habitable once again.  But most of all, she is thankful to have met and talked with the students who helped her with the repairs.  Over the past few months, they have become good friends through cards and letters, and the memories of last spring's Workfest.

Because of your support through KECC, CAP was able to make a difference for Darlene.  Thousands of individuals and families across the state, even our friends and neighbors are making it through tough times because of your generosity and help from the six KECC Charities!  Thank you!

Economic Development reaches their goal!

Thanks to all our Coordinators and Volunteers for coming out to the second Coordinator Rally this Wednesday at the Department of Aviation building in Frankfort!  As of this week's results, we are over 21% to goal!

Congratulations to the Economic Development Cabinet for reaching their internal goal this week, and very special thanks to the Christian Appalachian Project for hosting and providing an awesome country ham breakfast!

Our next rally is on Wednesday, September 7 at 9:00 a.m. at the Department of Aviation.  See you there!
