United Way Day of Action!

Across the country today, local communities are celebrating the United Way Day of Action!  Annually, on June 21, volunteers are invited to make better use of the longest day of the year by joining their local United Way in various service projects and community initiatives.  While many United Ways in Kentucky plan Day of Action events on alternate dates, here are two initiatives going on today that celebrate community service.

  • The United Way of Greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky Mentoring Fair
Tonight, 5 to 7 p.m.  Click here for more details.
  • Metro United Way's Call to Action - Metro United Way launched an ambitious community effort today to recruit volunteer readers, tutors and mentors to help area children succeed in school and life. There is something for everyone with the passion and commitment to get things done!  Click here to learn more.
Did your United Way celebrate the Day of Action today?  Do you have plans for an event later in the year?  Email us the details and we will spotlight your event in a coming edition of News & Notes!

Measuring Outcomes and Charting Impact

GovernanceThe National Council of Nonprofits published a recent article offering many useful tools to help nonprofits measure outcomes and chart their impact on the community.  Even if staff and volunteer leadership is already stretched thin, this article makes the case for why every non-profit should engage in the practice regularly---and make sure the public is aware of the results.  Click here for the full article and links to available resources.  Local United Ways can also visit the UWKY member website for additional tools.

Reaching out to Donors in their 20's

We can no longer say the "millennial generation" is coming.  They are already here...and they are waiting for us to reach out to them.  How can your organization build effective relationships with this next generation of donors?  What motivates people in their 20's to get involved in giving?  The Chronicle of Philanthropy hosted a recent discussion on what it takes to attract young people...and how to keep them engaged.
