Greetings!
We've just returned from a nice trip to the Big Island in Hawai'i (which is actually named Hawai'i). As you may remember from our classes, Hawayo Takata started teaching Reiki there in the late 1930's. Reiki spread across the U.S. from her students, and eventually across the world. Ironically, it is now returning to Japan in its "westernized" form (spiritual components removed). Her original healing clinic building still exists in Hilo and we had the honor of visiting it and taking a look around the building; it's now a chiropractic clinic and the owner is a chiropractor and kinesiologist, so he does energy work! (Pictures below.) Sincerely, Mary Lynn Perry and Bill Taylor Heartflame-Reiki |

Reiki's Original American Birthplace
Takata Clinic Building |
This is Takata's original clinic building. Both the inside and outside don't look like they've changed very much since her clinic was there! It's a very typical "plantation style" home from old Hawai'i. The current occupants are used to visitors coming to see American Reiki's first home. They still have Takata's original sign upstairs. If you look closely, you can see where she painted out "Reiki Massage" to "Hawaii Health Studio."

Adventures in Hawaii: A Visit to Aunty Aka
Several years ago, we met "Aunty Aka", a Hawaiian traditional healer and priestess, when she was visiting Sacramento and had a profound reading with her. She had invited us to see her when we were on the Big Island so we called and she told us to meet her at the temple where she is the priestess and guardian on the Kona side of the island. We met for over 2 hours and discussed various spiritual and healing topics. Aunty Aka will be coming to California soon to continue her work with local Native American groups. "Today, I continue doing the work that each generation before me has done. I travel to different parts of the world. I meet with elders of various indigenous tribes to do powerful prayers to release the negativity affecting each of these areas. I also work with the elementals of each area to raise the vibration that brings forth healing 'knowingly or unknowingly, consciously or unconsciously.' " Aunty Aka has a variety of videos on YouTube. Mary Lynn's favorite is her chant to the Moon Goddess Hina at South Point

Reiki Relaxation Station
If you are hosting an event such as a fun run, festival or wellness fair, we're happy to provide a "Reiki Relaxation Station", to share free Reiki mini-sessions with participants. We've had a lot of fun doing this at various venues and always enjoy meeting new people and introducing them to Reiki. We provide the booth free of charge and often ask our students and other practitioners to join us for a shift. Just let us know, we'd be glad to join in your event. Please call to schedule: (916) 456-4157.
