Canopy Volunteers
I am writing to thank you for your efforts as a volunteer with Canopy. This fall we planted more than 120 trees at five sites throughout Palo Alto and East Palo Alto, and more than 357 trees in 2011! Find your name below.
We would enjoy your presence at Canopy's 16th Mayors Tree Planting and Awards Ceremony on January 19th, 2012, at Gunn High School. More details here: Annual Party Invitation.
I am also writing to ask that you consider Canopy as you wrap-up your year-end giving. We have a challenge grant from the Dean Witter Foundation that will match every new and increased gift dollar-for-dollar! Your gift (of any amount) will immediately go to work in support of our tree plantings, tree care programs, and education efforts. Click the image on the right, or here, to make a gift.
If you have already made a gift, thank you!
Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Michael Hawkins

------------------------------------- East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy - October 8th and 15th
Thank you to the amazing 187 volunteers who planted 60 trees at East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy with Canopy. Together, we helped open a new school by transforming the campus with drought-tolerant and climate adapted trees. We also want to thank everyone who came out on Saturday, October 8, 2011, for our Planting Leader Training and Refresher.
Thank you to our Planting Leaders:

Barron Park Neighborhood Planting - October 29
Canopy and the Barron Park Green Team planted 13 trees with 35 volunteers. Another 4 trees will be planted on January 6, 2012. We are thrilled by the impact these new young trees are already making in the neighborhood.

Veterans Day at the VA - November 11
Cool temperatures and intermittent rain didn't deter dozens of volunteers from planting 11 trees at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System as part of a Veterans Day observance. "They don't stop war for rain," said Palo Alto VA spokeswoman Kerri Childress, "so the least we could do is plant a tree." Read Jason Green's San Jose Mercury News Article here.

Greer Park - December 3
At the beginning of this month we were delighted to have 45 community volunteers and Midtown Residents join Canopy and the City of Palo Alto to plant 27 of 54 new trees at Greer Park! Annette Glanckopf and Peggy Kinney of the Midtown Neighborhood Association worked with Peter Jensen, Public Works Landscape Architect (also an arborist) and Gino Segna, Tree Section Project Manager, to find a creative and attractive way to plant 54 new trees!
