BREAKFAST ANGELS

This Sunday's breakfast angels will be the Lingaitis, Moriarty and Mosco Families.

  Special Service in Honor of
July 4th next Sunday

Next Sunday, our Sunday morning services will follow the format found in the 1662 Prayer Book. As several of the founding fathers of this nation were Anglicans, we celebrate the Sunday before July 4th by remembering them through the liturgy that they heard. Please join us for this special service!

Campers love mail!

Please pray for our St. John's youth, Meredith Abdelnour, Ben Altman & Jacob Moorehead, who are attending Camp St. Mark this week (June 24-29). If you would like to drop them a note, the address is CAMP WEED, 11057 Camp Weed Place, Live Oak, FL 32060.

11th Step Meditation

Contemplative Prayer: A Way of Recovery

Join us for an hour on the second Saturday morning of each month in Cummings Chapel at 9:30 a.m. to practice contemplative prayer as a means to transformation. There will be a welcome and introduction to the hour, then time for silent prayer of the heart and meditation. This will be followed by conversation.

If you are not familiar with the practice, come and hear about it. Come back if it is a fit for where you are on your path on the journey.

Hosted by Dianne Larson and Tim Lynch

Looking for a Summer Camp?  Check out Camp Weed!

Camp Weed offers some wonderful Summer Camp opportunities for youth from 3rd to 12th grades.  The summer schedule is divided up by weeklong sessions named after saints. Each session is specifically designed to host certain age groups. These sessions have different themes and age appropriate talks and activities. The 2012 Summer Schedule can be found on the Camp Weed homepage at www.campweed.org.  Campers may enjoy volleyball, swimming, archery, arts and crafts, nature trail walking and much more.  Going to camp is a beautiful experience that can squeeze a year's worth of Christian formation into a fun filled week in the woods.  The memories and bonds that are formed while attending a week at Camp Weed will truly last a lifetime.  You must register at least a week in advance before the session you sign up for begins, so reserve a space for your child now!  Contact Camp Weed for camper requirements and more information.  See what Aaron Mayeski says about summer camp here.

                 Parish nurse

We've created a page on our Web site to highlight the work of our parish nurses. Each month, Tom and Sheila Burrell write a column for the page to promote good health. This month, they write about How to Keep Your Brain Sharp. Enjoy!

St. John's is getting a little more green!

You may have noticed that our Sunday bulletins are now smaller in size. Because we are encouraging our parishioners to use the prayer books in the pews, we are using a smaller paper size, which will mean less paper usage in the long run. Also, we won't be printing as many copies of our bulletin announcements since almost all the material is available in the e-Eagle, and you can now download a copy of the bulletin here.  You are welcome to pick up a copy on Sunday at the back of the church if you'd like to take one home.

New Facilities Manager
We are happy to announce that Tim Engemann has been hired as our new Facilities Manager. He will begin work Monday, June 25th. Tim has years of experience in the construction industry, and also served as head verger at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Please join us in welcoming him to the Cathedral staff.
Welcome Bishop Suffragan Chapman!
The Right Rev. Michael Chapman, Bishop Suffragan of Peru, and his wife, Linda, will be joining us this Sunday.  He is our guest celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist, and they will be joining us for breakfast at 9 a.m. and during coffee hour after the 10:30 a.m. service.  Come meet him and learn more about mission opportunities in Peru.

Cursillo Ultreya This Sunday, June 24th!

Leadership Breakfast, June 28th:
Taking care of our youngest citizens

Our next Leadership breakfast will be next Thursday, June 28th, at 7:30 a.m. We will be discussing Children: 1,2, 3, the latest report from Jacksonville Community Council Inc (JCCI). It serves as a road map for how we take care of our youngest citizens, mapping out how new research on brain development and learning. The report gives practical steps for everyone caring for newborns, infants, and toddlers and valuable information to Jacksonville's decision-makers. Come learn how Jacksonville can raise the tide that lifts all boats, steering all our children toward lifelong success. Our guest panel will include Jill Dame, Interim CEO of the Jacksonville Children's Commission, Susan Main, Executive Director of the Early Learning Coalition of Duval, Geoff Selhorst, owner and administrator of A Child's Place Montessori Schools, Chris Lester, author and lead trainer of the Newborn TOUCH program at Baptist Health. The breakfast is free and open to the public. Reservations are required. Please RSVP to Theresa Johnson at tjohnson@jaxcathedral.org.

Get trained to use defibrillators

Have you noticed we have two Automated External Defibrillators (thanks to a generous benefactor) at the cathedral? An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and is able to treat them through defibrillation, before the rescue crew arrives. We are offering training of the use of these SIMPLE devices for anyone who is interested in learning how to use them. You DO NOT have to be a medical professional to operate these EXTREMELY user friendly devices. The 15 minute training will be offered on the following dates: Sundays, July 1 and July 8 at noon. Location: Ingram Lounge. Please be prompt as we will start right on time. You never know when you might be in the right place at the right time to save a life. That's worth 15 minutes of your time.

Will you help with our Family Promise project?

These families with children have been screened through Family Promise of Jacksonville, a non-profit organization that works with churches to help people who are in economic distress find jobs and permanent housing. During the day, families will be transported to Family Promises offices, and their children will participate in summer programs.

Summer Fun Downtown!

Formerly known as VBS, "Summer Fun Downtown" will be a week of engaging activities for kids from 5 to 8 p.m. from August 6th to the 10th. All children from 4th to 5th grade are invited to come, whether they attend St. John's or not, so encourage your children to bring their friends! During the first hour, children will check in and enjoy a "snack" supper. For the rest of the evening, children will have fun acting out Bible stories, making crafts and music together, and enjoying other recreational activities. The nursery will also be available for younger children during this time. Volunteers are welcome! We can use either adult or youth volunteers to assist with the children. Prior registration is required to attend. You can drop by the office to pick up a registration form, or download and print out the form here and return or mail back to the office. We are also in need of donations toward our expenses, so please contribute if you are able! If you would like to give a donation, please make out your check to St. John's Cathedral and put "Summer Fun Downtown" on the memo line.
