Trinity Sunday
First Sunday after Pentecost, 2011
Collect

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Family Promise childrenFamily Promise Week is coming up! We need volunteers

to help with this important - and enjoyable - project.

Greetings!

St. John's Cathedral will be a "host church" for the Family Promise program July 24-31. We need folks to sign up to stay at church one night or more, and others who can provide a meal, snacks, toiletries, linens and other items. I plan to spend a night or two at church during that week! Please join me!

If you can help, please take time to fill out this questionnaire.

Even if you can commit to providing just a carton of milk, a box of granola bars or a few bottles of shampoo, you'll be helping make our guests (two or three families) feel welcome during this week. We hope to schedule volunteer training soon with Family Promise staff to make sure things go smoothly.

Family Promise has been based in Jacksonville for five years. The program helps people in economic crisis find jobs and permanent housing. In most cases, these are intact families who are not eligible to stay together at Sulzbacher or other shelters. They are law-abiding people who are facing economic challenges. During the day, the adults are either at job interviews, or at the Family Promise office working with job-placement counselors. The children ride to and from school or summer activities in the Family Promise van. At the end of the day, Family Promise transports its clients to a host church where they stay for a week at a time. Volunteers at the host churches provide dinner and breakfast, and stay at church while the families are there.

This will be the first time St. John's has provided shelter for homeless families in this program. Contact Rolland Kohls at kohls26@hotmail.com or me if you have any questions.

All blessings,

Theresa Johnson, Cathedral Executive

NEW WEDNESDAY PROGRAMS HAVE BEGUN!  The Basic A class with Dean Kate begins at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., Dean Kate is leading a book study of "Walking The Bible: A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses" by Bruce Feiler. Books are available for $15 in the cathedral bookstore.

ENJOY 'BREAKFAST WITH HENRI NOUWEN'

Our traditional 9 a.m. summer breakfasts begin this Sunday-- a great way for those who attend the 8 and 10:30 services to meet and fellowship over a delicious meal. Each Sunday we will read a short passage by Henri Nouwen to discuss at our tables. Ministry groups are needed to prepare this Sunday meal time together-- contact the office to sign up. The suggested donation for breakfast is $4 for all ages. This week's breakfast will be provided by our properties committee.

THREE TO BE ORDAINED AS PRIESTS THIS SUNDAY

On June 19, the Rev. Beth Tjoflat will be ordained into the Sacred Order of Priests at St. John's Cathedral, along with the Rev. Wiley Ammons and the Rev. George Hinchcliffe at 5 p.m. Please help us host this event by signing up for refreshments at the easel in Taliaferro Hall for the reception following the ordination.

Learn about Audire, training in spiritual direction

Two St. John's parishioners, Joe O'Shields and Claudia Milligan, are participating in Audire: The Central Florida Foundation for Spiritual Direction, Inc. and recommends to anyone interested an information, orientation day on Saturday, July 9th from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at San Pedro Retreat Center in Winter Park. Audire is a three-year formation program that trains people for the ministry of spiritual direction, providing listening and companioning skills that are beneficial to many ministries. The Orientation Day is designed to provide information and answer questions for those interested in the program.  A new term begins in September. More information about Audire can be obtained at www.audirespiritualdirection.org. To register for  the Orientation Day, contact Diane Francisco at 321-254-1876 or DRFran09@aol.com.

ANOINTERS OFFER PRAYER MINISTRY EACH SUNDAY
Do you have a concern and wish to pray with someone? Did something good happen to you? Come to the side altar and ask God for guidance or thank God for what has happened. This confidential ministry is available in the Holy Communion and Ascension Chapels during Communion.   The anointer will say a prayer for you and then anoint you with holy oil. You will leave with a blessing and know that God is there for you whenever you need Him. Please come and see.

WHEELCHAIR MINISTRY -  Art Towson gathers volunteers to be helpers for the Wheelchair Ministry. They support our parishioners who need assistance in getting over from the surrounding residences to Communion. Can you help out with this?  Call Art at 744-6982 or email cloverlyfl@comcast.net to assist.

CURSILLO ULTREYA - The area ultreya will be hosted by St. John's next Sunday, June 26. The Ultreya service begins at 5 p.m. followed by a cover dish potluck  in Taliaferro Hall.

EFM -  Education for Ministry, has made a world of difference for so many people here at the Cathedral, in the diocese, and the world wide Anglican community.  Here at the Cathedral we have two ongoing groups, one taught by Jay Wright and the other by Joe and Laura O'Shields, that gather to read the Bible, learn about the history of the world wide churches and the Episcopal church as well as reflect theologically on our everyday experiences.  Contact Joe or Laura O'Shields, joeoshie@comcast.net, 904-399-5916.  We welcome visitors at this time and involvement with us for next fall .

YOUR HOSPITALITY IS WELCOME! Check out the easel in Taliaferro Hall for wonderful opportunities to prepare breakfast. Sign up today with your family or friends!  Summer Breakfasts will continue until August 21.

LET US KNOW IF YOU NEED PASTORAL CARE, PRAYERS  Because of recently enacted privacy laws, hospitals do not call the cathedral to let us know automatically if you are in the hospital. Please call the office and let us know so that our clergy can visit you, bring flowers and pray for your swift recovery. Our prayer list is kept with Judy Maurer in the office and then included each week in this bulletin. Confidential prayers are passed on to the Daughters of the King through the pew cards. Let us know so that we can pray for and help you.

SAVE THE DATE/RALLY DAY: Rally Day is Aug. 28. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the many classes, volunteer opportunities and the outreach ministries offered at the cathedral.

Church possum

Church possum! We caught this baby hanging out in the church office on Wednesday and with the help of one of the Downtown Ambassadors, captured him and found him (or her?) a new home in Old City Cemetery.
