Greetings!
Theresa Johnson
Theresa Johnson, Cathedral Executive.

In preparation for this week's Dean's Forum on American cathedrals, I've been doing research on amazing Episcopal ministries across the country. It is very inspiring to consider how other cathedrals are reaching out to their communities through art, music and service to those in need. Read more.

I will also be talking this week about the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., both a national treasure and part of our unique heritage as Episcopalians. I look forward to sharing with you at our forum this Sunday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. in Taliaferro Hall.

All blessings,

Theresa

(Our "Cathedrals Through the Ages" class continues Oct. 31 with a presentation from representatives of our choir who traveled to Ely, and on Nov. 7, Joe O'Shields will discuss the history and role of St. John's Cathedral.)

Parish picnic was huge success!

Many thanks to everyone who helped make the parish picnic such a great event last Sunday. Volunteers included: Melissa Dearing, Bob Sherer, Katie Kenyon, Judith Halpin, Charlotte Walker, Lois Lawrence, Charles Winney, The Lingaitis Family, Deb Grissett and Andy Johnson. Canon Administrator Monica MacKenzie made arrangements for the party at Episcopal High School. Thanks also to Greg Curry and friends for providing excellent music. And thanks be to God for the beautiful weather and for the fellowship everyone enjoyed! Our Web site features a slide show with more photos of the day!
John Cannon offers world premiere of work by musical genius David Briggs
Recording artist aOrgannd concert organist John Cannon will present the world premiere of David Briggs' Lobe  den Herren, O Meine Seele at a free concert at St. John's on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The program will also feature works by Maurice Duruflé, César Franck, T. Tertius Noble, Petr Eben, Max Reger, and J.S. Bach. (David Briggs is one of the VERY biggest names in the organ and choral world. He's Organist Emeritus of Gloucester Cathedral, and is known worldwide as a recording artist, composer, recitalist, and improviser. Don't miss this amazing event!) A reception will follow the concert, in Taliaferro Hall.
TCS placemats
Cathedral School students created wonderful artwork to use as placemats for the Men's Cursillo #124, which took place the weekend of Oct. 15th. Cathedral member Harry Broom was rector of this Cursillo and is also a member of the Board of Trustees for The Cathedral School. Students have also made placemats for the Wounded Warrior retreats. (Pray for the women's Cursillo #124 beginning tonight, especially for our St. John's candidates, Kim Kosters and Maria Lofton and team member Barri Jones.)
