| Teeing up the Chesapeake Cadillac Invitational
The 2009 Chesapeake Cadillac Invitational is fast approaching, and this year's tournament is shaping up to be just as exciting as last year's event.
Our foursomes will enjoy a wonderful kickoff party at the Havana Club Monday night, Sept. 14, followed by breakfast the next morning at Bulle Rock and a noon shotgun start.
Even if you're not playing, you can get in on the fun by buying golf balls for the helicopter ball drop. The winner takes home 25 percent of the proceeds from ball sales, and you don't have to be present to win. Learn more about the helicopter ball drop and the rest of the tournament here. |
Remembering our friend Christopher Schaum
The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland mourns the June 26, 2009 passing of Christopher Schaum, an NKF-MD volunteer who advocated for kidney patients in meetings with members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Chris, a husband and father of two young children, was only 33 when he died while awaiting a kidney transplant. It would have been his third.
Chris was a very giving, articulate and sincere young man who was part of the 2009 Washington, D.C. NKF Advocacy event. He went with Sarah DeCerbo and many others whose lives were touched by chronic kidney disease to advocate for change in the halls of Congress. He spent two days spreading the word about the need for change of regulations and financial assistance for people who are in need of a transplant or the medications necessary to preserve the life of a transplanted organ.

| Support our third-party fund-raisers
Concerts, Avon sales are among programs to benefit NKF-MD
Third-party fund-raisers are a great way for NKF-MD to bring in revenue to support our programs and services in the community. Generous individuals create fund-raising events, do all the hard work, and share the proceeds with the Foundation.
Autumn brings several of these fund-raisers. A local Avon representative, Thelma Hardy, is donating 10 percent of all her online sales made in September to the NKF-MD. Find details and a link to the site here.
Enjoy lunch, dinner or just drinks at the Towson Greene Turtle on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and 10 percent of all sales that day will be donated to NKF-MD. The Greene Turtle is located at 408 York Road. We hope to see you there!
Ryan Weir, son of NKF-MD board member Matthew Weir, M.D., is once again raising money for the Foundation by running in the Oct. 10 Baltimore Marathon. This year, Ryan is doing the half-marathon and hoping to raise $10,000. Learn more and make a pledge here.
An Oct. 13 concert at Goucher College featuring folk music legend Richard Thompson, pictured above, and singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III also will benefit NKF-MD. Find details and ticket information here.
Nritya Neerajanam, a festive, multilingual program of Kuchipudi dance featuring well-known local and national Indian classical dancers, will be offered in Greenbelt on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. Find more information here.
We are very grateful to all of our dedicated fund-raising partners. Please check our website often to learn more about these interesting and fun events. |
