Be Impactful.

The Phoenix Conservatory of Music is seeking your help in finding leaders to help us make an impact in neighborhoods, in families and in lives. Today's world can be increasingly unsteady and fast-paced.  Heavy demands are placed on families, children and schools to fit more in, do more, be more, and achieve more.  Meanwhile, experiences that will enrich, nourish, teach, and help achieve success are vanishing.

At The Phoenix Conservatory of Music, we know that music is a way for us to grow, to learn, and to play together.  Music can soothe our souls, lift us up, bring us closer, and teach us to work together.  We experience creativity, process-based thinking, and problem solving.  We can use music as a tool to fulfill our potential as community, as educators, as families, and as people.

The Phoenix Conservatory of Music's mission is to unleash the power of music through quality music education.

It is our vision to be the valley's own premier affordable music education provider of choice.

We are a primary resource for schools and fill gaps in music education by providing programming, experiences, professional development, and facilitating arts and academically integrated programs. We advance the love of music and provide children, families, communities and schools opportunities they otherwise would not have. We nurture the citizen artist who actively participates in music directly improving quality of life.

PCM has been serving the Phoenix area since 1998.  In the last 6 years, we have grown on average at rate of 25% annually both in our annual income/budget and in the numbers of people that we serve.  In spite of a down economy, we are continuing to grow. This is evidence of a growing community need.   We have been able to diversify our revenue stream between contributed income and earned income, making us more sustainable.

PCM serves a multitude of communities, from early childhood program participants starting with prenatal programs to senior citizens.  In the last fiscal year, PCM served over 3,000 students that had 4-110 learning hours with their mentor artists.  We offered over 2 dozen programs that were free to the public.  We worked with over 25 professional working artists/musicians who truly want to enrich the lives of people in the community by sharing their craft.  Phoenix Conservatory of Music believes that every person has the potential to enjoy and create music!  And everyone has the potential to reap the many benefits to be found in music! Many of our communities are largely diverse, some from underserved, impoverished communities, where opportunities to enjoy programming that enrich their lives are few and far between.

Over the next three years, Phoenix Conservatory of Music will:

  •          With the Help of Ad2 Greater Phoenix, Build a brand that    accurately reflects our mission.
  •     With the help of Ad2 Greater Phoenix, launch new collaterals, website, signage, and implement a new marketing and communications plan.
  •          Position ourselves more prominently in the community.
  •          Create a vibrant City Music Center through an aggressive marketing campaign.
  •          Develop a central campus with satellite outreach locations.
  •          Create an outstanding private music lesson and college preparatory program.
  •          Fully leverage our Berklee School of Music Affiliate Program and create a scholarship program for students in need.

We need to diversify and strengthen our revenue streams to provide sustainability and meet the growing need in the community:

  •          Engage the individual donor.
  •          Develop Corporate Relationships and Support.
  •          Expand and make our special events more profitable.

Our next step is to supplement our board of directors with very specific skill sets.  We look to expand our current board of 9 to a board of 15-17.

All board members must contribute a significant personal gift to the organization that is representative of their capacity (A minimum gift of $300 is required), and fund-raise on behalf of the organization.

We require that all board members be ambassadors of the organization, attend meetings regularly (meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month, and members can miss no more than 3 meetings annually), and attend organizational programs and events. The board meets for special sessions up to 2 times annually, has regular 2.5 hour meetings every 4-6 weeks, and communicates between meetings by utilizing the web 2.0 and email.   Board Members must serve on at least one committee or ad hock project .

A total time commitment is 10+ hours monthly.  If you would like to submit yourself for consideration to the Phoenix Conservatory of Music Board of Directors, please fill out the application by clicking on the link in the left hand toolbar..  If you can suggest a candidate, please forward this on to them.  We will be accepting applications until August 31st.  All candidates are encouraged to attend the beginning of the September 14 Board Meeting from 6-7pm.  We have board orientation on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
