Give Us Five - Give Us Ten!
|
As a member of the West Cook YMCA, you know how important the YMCA is to you. You count on us to help you keep balance in spirit, mind, and body. You have friends here, and you look forward to your classes, work-outs, lap swims, or other important activities and programs.
Imagine if suddenly you were not able to afford your YMCA membership? Due to the economic downturn, many of our members are finding themselves in that situation, and they are looking to the YMCA to provide scholarship assistance. That's the money we raise through our annual "Invest in Youth" campaign, and this year while requests have gone up, donations have gone down.
We are asking all members to pitch in and help us in a summer 'mini-campaign" to help close the gap between requests and donations. We are not asking for big contributions - just "Give Us 5 or Give Us 10." Your contributions will add up and you will feel good about helping someone in need. For summer camp, for swim lessons, for membership - scholarship dollars are a part of our mission, and our mission is what makes us a YMCA!
Drop your $5 or $10 gift contribution off at the front desk during the month of July. Thank you for your support!

Meet Geri McLauchlan
|

Hi, I'm Geri McLauchlan, and I am very excited to take on the responsibility as the new CVO, i.e. chief volunteer officer of your YMCA. I chose to serve at your "Y" because we share similar values. I am totally inspired by the staff's service promise which includes a commitment to excellence in service and to model respect, responsibility, honesty and caring in all of our programs, services and interactions. You can go online to see the total list of staff promises.
I also commit to this promise. If we all lived this promise, we would change the world. I am totally inspired by the awesome board members and our commitment to creating an Excellent "Y". The board, the staff with their promise, plus my friends at the "Y" feed my spirit.
I feel like I found my home here at the "Y", where people feel their connection to one another, they value each another, and even share in one another's motivation. This is one of the biggest reasons I find additional inspiration in my morning work outs or in the early morning high energy spin classes. The workouts are hard. They make my body and mind strong.
As a third generation Oak Parker, yes I am a DOOPER (Dear Old Oak Parker), you may see me around town in my silver Prius, license plate, "All s 1" , that is "All is one", as I believe we are all connected. I am also a life-long learner. I have a Masters in teaching Mathematics and a Mechanical Engineering Degree, both from UICC. I have been a realtor in the community for the past 30 years, now with Baird and Warner. I hold accreditations for GRI, CRB, CCIM, LEED AP. Ask me what these mean when you see me. Please do "honk" if you see me zipping through the streets of our lovely community, don't hesitate to stop me on the sidewalk or even join me for an early "spin", I look forward to meeting you!
As a local Oak Parker, I have served on numerous boards, however, I see the greatest potential to influence our communities in a positive way, is through the West Cook YMCA. I look forward to serving you, as your CVO,
Blessings and warmest regards, Geri McLauchlan
