Big Sister Maria Arruda and Little Sister Brianna
Big Sister Maria and Little Sister Brianna have been matched since October 2011. This match was initially made by Gulf Coast's Adults Mentoring Children's Program in July 2007. When the match first met they hit it off over their love of shopping and have a mutual passion for spending afternoons at the mall.
Over the years, Maria has watched Brianna grow into a mature young lady and has had the opportunity to share new experiences with Brianna. As a result, Brianna took an interest in women's studies and fine art. She has taken classes in these subjects and spends time with her Big Sister going to art shows, museums, and festivals. Maria believes that not only has being a Big Sister taught Brianna how to grow as a mature young lady it has also been a learning experience for her as well. She states that the experience taught her patience and gave her the opportunity to have unconditional feelings of admiration for a child.
Maria recently received a card from Brianna thanking her for being the "best mentor a girl could have" and added that she feels lucky to have a mentor who has "pushed" her to succeed in life. Brianna states that, "every young girl should have a mentor just like hers"!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Start Something Luncheon - Please Join Us With a Friend or be a Table Captain!
Wednesday, September 12
12:00pm-1:00pm (registration begins at 11:30am)
Ruth Eckerd Hall
1111 McMullen Booth Road
Clearwater, FL 33759
Our agency is in need of Table Captains for our next "Start Something BIG Luncheon" at Ruth Eckerd Hall. The goal of the event is to raise funds for our programs and to spread the message to our community. It is totally FREE and will only last one hour.
What is a Table Captain? A Table Captain invites nine other people to join them at their table to learn more about the work BBBS is doing in our community. Family, friends, neighbors and work colleagues make excellent potential guests. The luncheon is free to you and your guests. You DO NOT have to ask anyone for money...your job would be to get them to the event. There is no requirement that anyone give at this event as it is the job of BBBS to inspire people to want to give. This event is a great opportunity for us to share the accomplishments of Big Brothers Big Sisters with the community and acknowledge our current donors. It will also help us raise much needed funds to maintain and sustain this much needed mentoring program in Pinellas County. If you are interested in serving as a Table Captain or attending with guests, please contact Tirrah Switzer at TirrahS@bbbspc.org or 727-518-8860 ext. 252.

Make BBBS Your Charity of Choice!
Are you involved with an organization who is planning an event or fundraiser? Do you have, or know of a business who would like to give back to the community? Big Brothers Big Sisters serving Pinellas, Hernando and Citrus Counties is looking for local organizations to participate in our Charity of Choice program!
A couple of ideas on how to become a Charity of Choice partner would be to have a special day at your place of business where a % of the proceeds benefit our agency, or to hold a special event for a group, where part of the the entry fees or food and beverage sales benefit our local children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters.
To participate, all event planning would be the sole responsibility of the organization that chooses us as their Charity of Choice. Due to a very limited staff, our agency cannot participate in actual event planning, but could potentially send a representative on the day of the event. To help promote the event, our agency would be happy to communicate details of your event to our constituents through email newsletters and social media, as appropriate.
If you have a Charity of Choice idea, please contact Donna Mainguth, Executive Assistant/Project Manager: 727-518-8860 ext 261, or DonnaMA@bbbspc.org

| Frequently Asked Question |
|
|
Why do I need to notify BBBS if any changes occur in the living arrangement of my household? Keeping your Match Support Specialist updated of any changes that occur in your household is essential. It is important for the agency and the parent to know who is living in the volunteer's home to help ensure child safety which is our top priority - it is critical to be aware if a household member has a history of violations that could put the child at risk while matched with the volunteer. In addition, the parent has the right to know who their child could potentially be around while matched with the volunteer. Please notify your Match Support Specialist immediately when living arrangements change.
