Match Moment

Big Brother James Yant & Julius

Big Brother James Yant and Little Brother Julius have been matched since March 2006. Since matched, they have continued their commitment to each other just as if it was the first day they met.  Big Brother James and Julius have done an array of interesting activities together such as going to sporting events, watching movies, playing the Wii, eating dinner and attending match events. Big Brother James has set a great reward system in place for Julius by paying him to help out around the house in order to earn money. This system helps Julius learn the importance of being responsible, earning a valuable dollar, and respecting others. James says Julius always uses the money and the gift certificates he earns to take his Mom out to eat.

When asked about Julius, James said "Julius is a nice young man, very respectful and he listens well." James noted that the best part of the match is the fact that "Julius is really respectful and we are truly compatible! Julius is really turning into a great young man and is very popular at school with his classmates." James said he "always reminds Julius to treat everyone with respect and consideration and Julius is definitely staying grounded."

As this match approaches their 6th year anniversary, the match continues to get stronger by the day, as they work together on keeping the friendship going in the right direction. Even with Little Brother Julius being pulled in different directions as he takes on more responsibilities as a young man, the match continues to provide the stability and friendship Julius needs and cherishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: Why does my Match Support Specialist ask so many questions, especially safety questions, during monthly and quarterly contacts?
As you all know, child safety is our top priority, but the development of your relationship with your Little and the Little's personal development are also extremely important to us. We want to make sure that the children we serve in BBBS are getting the most out of their experiences of being matched with our Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Big Couples. Although some questions may seem repetitive and unnecessary to you, we want to provide good customer service to you and ensure child safety.

Your Match Support Specialist works hard to support your match to the highest level, and in order to do so we need your cooperation and understanding when completing these contacts with us. Thank you all for your dedication to your Little and your cooperation in responding to us in a timely manner for your scheduled phone, email and/or in-person contacts.
