Match Moments

Jay and Nicholas Little Brother Nicholas was the last one of his siblings to be matched in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He is very close to his older sisters, and as his grandfather said, "He was always surrounded by females!" When he finally met his Big Brother, Jay, he was very happy and relieved. After their very first outing, Nicholas declared Jay to be "A good Big Brother!" They have only gotten closer since then, and Nicholas is happy to have some "guy time" away from his sisters. Jay and Little Brother Nicholas were matched in January of this year. Both enjoyed each other's company right from the start. They have spent time playing sports, attending games, and getting to know each other. At the time they were matched, Nicholas was living with his grandparents and sisters in Clearwater. After school closed for the summer, Nicholas and his siblings moved back in with their mom and the family now lives in Tampa. Nicholas was concerned that Jay might not be willing to travel the extra distance to see him once he moved, but Jay never hesitated in committing to keep the match going, regardless of the drive. In fact, he picked up Nicholas and all his stuff, and helped him actually make the move. Jay continues to see Nicholas regularly, and they always have a great time. Jay and Nicholas' most recent match outing was when Jay unexpectedly received time off of work. He met up with Nicholas, went to Busch Gardens for the afternoon, and then decided to try and find tickets to attend a Bucs game. So they went to Raymond James Stadium and searched the crowd for extra tickets. That was when Jay and Nicholas were approached by a very large, tall man. Towering at about 6'7, the stranger asked Jay if he wanted two tickets. He directed the match to wait against a wall, walked away, and returned minutes later with a large bag. The stranger then introduced himself as a former Super Bowl player of the Chicago Bears and gave Jay and Nicholas two tickets. He also gave Nicholas free Bucs T-shirts, forty Bucs Bucks, and told Nicholas if he needed football cleats, tuition to play football, etc, that Jay should call him! They also came to find that this player was a mentor himself. They parted ways and Jay and Nicholas went to find their seats and enjoy the game, in Row A! Like many other Bigs, Jay demonstrates his dedication and continued commitment to his Little. Nicholas is lucky to have his Big Brother in many ways! Share your match moments with your Match Manager. You never know, your story could inspire others just like Jay and Nicholas. |

| Frequently Asked Questions |
|
This month's FAQ is a clarification from August's Match Flash's FAQ. There has been some confusion on what BBBSPC's policy is on overnights between Bigs and Littles.
Overnight visits or other sleepovers between a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple and their Little Brother or Little Sister are prohibited. Accordingly, violations of this policy could result in the closure of your match. A match may request an exception to this policy for a Special Occasion; all requests require written parental approval and the signed request must be submitted in writing to the Match Support Specialist at least two weeks (14 days) in advance. All requests for exception must be approved by the Agency's CEO or Executive Vice President of Programs. No exceptions will be made for Bigs and Littles who have not been matched for one year (12 months).
