Match Moments

Kase and Chamberlain

Chamberlain met her Big Sister Kase in November, 2010. Together, they have been a fabulous match!

Since meeting to Kase, Chamberlain has been introduced to many fun and exciting activities that have been nothing short of life enriching confidence boosters.  Together they have taken archery class, have gone to dance recitals, picked blueberries, enjoyed swimming in the heat of day, and even traveled to Orlando for the Holy Land Experience.

One activity, however, that has really stood out has been horseback riding.  The two started lessons not very long ago. Chamberlain loves it!  Not only has Chamberlain learned how to ride a horse, she is learning how to care for and groom a horse by an experienced horse trainer.

Chamberlain loves being with Kase. "Kase is very fun to be around and she's funny." says Chamberlain. Chamberlain's mom has observed the change and the growth in her daughter, saying how she "is more confident and cares more about her appearance since being matched with Kase."  Her mother believes that sharing the same faith and values helps Chamberlain and Kase get along, sharing a Christian bond of fellowship along with being matched as a Big and a Little.  She says because of that they get along "in a more holistic way and goes beyond everything they expected."

Kase, when asked about her thoughts and feelings on this match couldn't make it clearer.  "I wouldn't change a thing!"

Share your match moments with your Match Manager. You never know, your story could inspire others just like Kase and Chamberlain.

Drowning Doesn't Look Like Drowning

You're at the beach or at the pool and you know someone is drowning when he's screaming and flailing his arms helplessly...right?  Think again.

Drowning doesn't look like drowning.  Drowning can occur as a "deceptively quiet event" seeing as the process of drowning typically renders victims unable to move voluntarily or to even make a sound.

Some key points to remember:
1.Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are unable to call out for help.
2.Drowning people's mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water.
3. Drowning people cannot wave for help.
4. Drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements.

Big Brothers Big Sisters encourages you to read this article and learn about drowning signs and symptoms.  This knowledge could one day save a life.
