Hint of the Month

To quickly find the last serial number used for a given part number, a new field "Last Serial Number Used" has been added to the Casting Master.

Announcing Part Serialization and Traceability
Guardian Software Systems is pleased to announce the ability to assign serial numbers and track serialized parts throughout the course of the manufacturing process.  This process can be used for any or all parts that need serialization or it can be limited to just the parts that deviate from the original process and are re-routed through production.

Serial Numbers can automatically be generated at the time a work order is created or serial numbers may be assigned when needed.  The Guardian Foundry System also allows for the conversion of an activated serial number to a new serial number, such as a customer's specific serial number, while maintaining the link between the two numbers for traceability.

A Lesson Learned by Texas Precision Metalcraft
tpm officeBrad DeSplinter, with Texas Precision Metalcraft in Sugar Land, Texas recently confirmed to Guardian that it is significantly easier to implement a new software system during these slower economic times than it was being busy with all the daily demands on his staff.

Brad told Guardian that when the economy was booming it was hard to dedicate resources to the implementation of Guardian, even though they knew that when the system was up and running, it would pay for itself in the end.  Per Brad "We ended up starting and stopping due to other demands and we kept losing our momentum".  He continued, "The fire at my feet was more urgent than the fire down the street."

Brad went on to say "However, once the economy slowed down a bit, we found that we could dedicate the time and resources we needed to make significant progress.  I encourage anyone who is interested in putting in the Guardian System to ACT NOW and have the first couple phases of the Guardian System  integrated as far as you can before things pick up again or you might find that you will not have the time to do it right."

Brad DeSplinter will be at the 56th Investment Casting Expo October 11- 14th. If interested in speaking with Brad, visit our booth and we will be happy to introduce you to him. He welcomes the opportunity to talk about his Guardian experience.
Guardian Addresses Melt Loss
The Guardian Foundry System now addresses melt loss by assigning a given melt loss percentage per part.  This allows for tighter inventory control on alloy usage and additional details for costing purposes.
