About OC Math Circle
The Orange County Math Circle was founded in 2007 by math enthusiast Johnny Li (St. Margaret's Episcopal School, Class of 2011) to bring his experience from San Diego Math Circle to share with more students in his hometown. Please read Orange County Math Circle, A Service Learning Project by Dr. Michelle Muratori of Johns Hopkins University to learn more about its history. |

Dear Friends,
Happy New Year and welcome to 2011! In case you were wondering, yes, 2011 is a prime. It is also equal to 157+163+167+173+179+181+191+193+197+199+211, the sum of 11 consecutive primes!
Despite the rain and cold over this holiday season, we at Orange County Math Circle have been blessed by the warmth from our volunteers and supporters. Mrs. Nita Walker, a math specialist from the Santa Ana Unified School District, has accepted our invitation to join our Advisory Board in helping with our Santa Ana Math Club program. Mr. David Auckly from the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute is continuing the grant support to OCMC and offering additional opportunities to help us grow. Just weeks before Christmas, a check in the amount of $1,000 came in to OCMC from a donor whose daughter had extremely positive experience from our programs. Out of sincere wish to support OCMC and our work in strengthening math culture, the donor asked to remain anonymous. Such support and affirmation means a lot to us and inspires us to do more for our community.
We have lots of exciting events planned for 2011. Our first event is the New Year Invitational and MATHCOUNTS Scrimmage, jointly sponsored by Dr. Michelle Muratori of the Study of Exceptional Talent (SET), Johns Hopkins University, on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Thanks to generous support from Mr. David Boyle-- the Associate Headmaster and Upper School Principal of St. Margaret's Episcopal School, this event will be held on St. Margaret's campus in San Juan Capistrano, CA. We hope you will join us for a fun Sunday afternoon.
Have an awesome prime year! Johnny Li St. Margaret's Episcopal School, Class of 2011
