will be teaching and lecturing
May 3rd and 4th, 2013

will be returning to teach in
June 2013.  She will be teaching a class featuring piecing and her wonderfule machine applique technique  and and also a wool applique class.

will be teaching in August of 2013.

Gwen Marston
will be teaching Liberated Log Cabins, Liberated Baskets and a Small Studies Workshop in April 2014.

How much fun we are having meeting the new quilters and travelers who are coming in to the shop to see us since our article in the Spring/Summer Edition of the Quilt Sampler magazine hit the newstand!  We are also loving the quilters with southern accents, the hints of Scandinavia some of the accents of the Midwest and the "flat a" of the New England voices we are chatting with on the phone.

Summer has been flying by, and we are getting our fall schedule of classes together and are busy opening boxes of new fabric.  We are also working on Block of the Month quilts for next year and getting things set for some of the classes that we have scheduled into 2013 and 2014.  Check below for links to classes with Kim Diehl and Gwen Marston - more 2013 links coming soon!

We will however,  have the Gardener's Alphabet Block of the month ready to go soon, -  we will begin shipping at the end of September. Right now we have a limited amount of these available at the moment as there is a delay in restocking the Lecien floss - so don't delay if you are thinking about this embroidery quilt. Details below!

piecefully,
Kris

Gardener's Alphabet Block of the Month

Join our Gardener's Alphabet Block of the Month which begins in September of 2012. This is a 12 month program and features the beautiful botanical blocks from Meg Hawkey of Crabapple Hill Studios. The 64" x 73" quilt consists of 22 embroidered blocks. Sign up now to save your spot.

Included in the Gardener's Alphabet Block of the Month will be assorted background fabrics from Meg Hawkey's collections for Lecien from Whitewash and Inkwell as well as the silky feeling cotton Cosmo solid and variegated embroidery flosses also from Lecien.

The richly embroidered blocks in Meg's quilt feature crayon tinting for dimension and realism - and the patterns will include a guide for coloring. Quilted Strait and Barb Schulz are offering a coloring option using Fabrico Markers. Barb has developed a technique using these to mimic the soft shading offered by crayons - with a lot less fuss! Beginning Cotton Theory

Class Fee: $75.00 - includes book, complete fabric kit for table mat, and seam guide   One Session Class: Sunday, August 19, 11 AM to 4 pm

Cotton Theory quilting is a new and different way to construct your quilt. It's backward!

Unlike traditional quilts, which are pieced together, layered with batting and then quilted, Cotton Theory projects are quilted first, one segment at a time, and then assembled using Betty Cotton's fold-and-finish procedures.

The Cotton Theory method makes quilting easy, no matter the size of your quilt. You quilt each piece individually before you construct your project, so quilting becomes just as enjoyable as piecing together the design. More......

Ink Workshop - The Crayon Thing
Instructor: Barb Schultz
Class Fee: $45.00
One Session Class: Sunday, September 30, 2012, 11 am to 4 pm

There are a variety of patterns and embellishment techniques that use crayons for color. Crayons provide a soft color that is especially effective in quilts with hand embroidery - in fact one of our favorite hand embroidery pattern designers Crabapple Hill uses crayons a lot. However crayons on cotton fabric have a couple of drawbacks - they are really more permanent on a cotton/poly blend fabric (we quilters don't tend to have much of that around !), you only get one kind of a tip to work with, and it can be difficult to get the shading to come out just the way you want. Never fear!  Barb has come up with a way to use the Fabrico Markers by Tsukineko instead of crayons  more...

Radiant Feathered Star Class
Instructor: Maggie Ball
Class Fee: $80.00    Two Session Class: Thursday Oct. 25 and Friday Oct. 26, 10:30 to 4:30

Make the beautiful 28½" Radiant Star block with your choice of Le Moyne Star, Snowball or Kaleidoscope in the center. We will study a variety of piecing techniques for perfect triangles, including foundation paper-piecing for the feathers. We begin with instruction in basic pattern drafting to make a template for the star arms and to calculate the sizes of the block components. Then we'll continue with constructing the block and a discussion of options for making a medallion-style quilt to showcase this stunning star.
