Sometime around the first part of May, we are also looking forward to the Quilt Sampler Magazine hitting the newsstands. Because we will be a featured shop in the magazine, we will be getting our copies a couple of weeks ahead of the general publication date. You can reserve your advance, autographed copy now - and pick it up at the shop, or we will mail you as soon as they get dropped off at our front door. The cover price is $6.99 - we are selling advance copies for $5.50.
At the end of May, be sure to catch Gwen Marston's lecture at Port Gamble on May 28th. Her class has been sold out for months, but there will be lots of seats available for her lecture, Abstract Quilts in Solids. Quilts made in solids have an impressive history. They were the first quilts to be taken seriously as art. In 1971, Amish quilts from the collection of Jonathan Holstein and Gail van der Hoof constituted the first major museum exhibition of quilts shown at the Whitney SoMuseum of American Art in New York. Using her new abstract quilts as examples, Gwen will discuss her work in solids and point out some of the great characteristics inherent in solids. The lecture will be illustrated with quilts from her book Ideas and Inspirations: Abstract Quilts in Solids. The lecture will take place in the beautiful Port Gamble Vista Pavilion.
