Peggy Gelbrich

Peggy Gelbrich

Peggy Gelbrich Stars in the Night is teaching at Quilted Strait November 11, 12 & 13

For over 30 years, Peggy has been quilting and helping others catch the "quilting bug." Teaching and sharing the art of quilt making is her passion. She has taught quilt making across the United States, teaching large guild classes, quilting retreats, quilt shops and small private groups in her home.

Because of her expertise and attention to detail, Peggy has made quilts that have won many awards and accepted for showing at the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilter's show in Seattle. Her quilt, "Roses for Travis and Sharon" is pictured in the book, "Rose Sampler Supreme," by Rosemary Mahkan. She has been published in Quilter's Newsletter and Fonz and Porter's Love of Quilting magazines.

Award

Peggy loves all types of quilting but traditional quilts are her favorite. Her preferred stitching methods are machine piecing, hand quilting, needle-turn appliqué and crazy quilting.

She enjoys the challenge of learning and experimenting with different techniques in the quilt making process, always looking for an easier way to conquer those seemingly difficult patterns.

Originally from Oregon travels took Peggy to Ketchikan, Alaska for 22 years with husband Ron and three children, Travis, Ian and Allison. After Alaska the Gelbrichs spent five years in Washington and are now back home in Oregon. The kids are grown now and grandchildren have been added to the Gelbrich family; all the more people to receive and share in this love of quilting.

We have had a wonderful summer in the shop and have been excited to meet quilters from South Africa, Australia, Germany, France, Nova Scotia, Ireland, Sweden, and probably more that I missed! What a pleasure it is to hear about their quilts and and find out what is hot in quilting in their part of the world.

The trees in Port Gamble now are just more beautiful every morning when I get to the shop. We see a regular parade of photography enthusiasts passing by our window each day. Along with the trees, we are beginning to notice the other fall rituals in Port Gamble, the farm stand is now closed for the winter, there is a lot more interest in the flavor of the soup of the day at the General Store and the wedding tents will be coming down soon.

Be sure to save the dates for our annual fall sale in November (details below) and check out our fall line up of classes.

Sewing is fun and super-creative - and it's even better when you can use it to solve problems, save money, and do a little something good for the environment, too.

That's what this podcast is all about: Taking something fabric-y that already exists, and turning it into something new and useful. What's not to love about that? You're stretching your creativity, you're avoiding mass consumerism, and you're taking something out of the waste stream. Plus, you're having fun. And that's really important, too.
