Featured Teacher

Gail Garber

Gail Garber is teaching at Quilted Strait
Tuesday, October 11th.

For Gail, teaching is her greatest reward in quilting. She loves giving students new skills and the confidence to create their own original designs. Her specialties include drafting original quilts with free-form shapes, designing circular stars and circular borders, basic paper foundation piecing and color and contrast. Drafting her own original designs is one of her delights.

Gail's third book was published in the fall of 2010 by C&T Publishing.

When she is not quilting, you might find her in her role as executive director of Hawks Aloft,  in the back country of New Mexico, or in the classroom, teaching youth and adults about protecting wild areas.

Hand Quilting

We had a couple of visitors from England in the shop a few weeks ago and one of them was an avid hand quilter. She asked for a needle puller, I assumed she meant one of those little rubber discs that  help pull a loaded quilt through the fabric....not so....she was talking about this nifty little gadget. I am not an accomplished hand quilter, but I must say that when I gave it a try I was impressed with how easy it was to use and I can see that with repeated use, it would get to be second nature to use.  Below are a couple of videos that show how it is used.
