Featured Teacher
Laurie Shifrin
| |

Laurie will be teaching
Sunset Over Sedona at Quilted Strait, May 27& 28
Although she enjoyed her former career as a professional violinist, this phase of Laurie Shifrin's life has been the most creative and rewarding. She feels fortunate to live in the lush Pacific Northwest, where her love for colors and textures found in nature is constantly fed and nurtured.
Laurie regularly travels around the United States and Canada to share her enthusiasm and love for batiks and her no-nonsense quilting tips. Her appearance on the television show Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson is still shown in reruns.
Many quilters know Laurie from her many years as manager of the wonderful Seattle quilt shop In The Beginning, which closed its doors a few years ago. She continues as a technical editor for In The Beginning publications, including books and patterns.
Laurie's other quilting endeavors have led her to design the featured pattern for a batik kit from Timeless Treasures. She has contributed quilts to numerous books by other authors, including a recently released book on table runners. Laurie's quilts and quilt designs are regularly featured by Hoffman, Island Batik, and Princess Mirah Design at International Quilt Market.

Our May class schedule is below. Take a look at Laurie Shifrin's (also known as the batik goddess) Class, Sunset over Sedona....she is coming to teach one of her newest patterns in May. We have several interesting classes in the works over the summer - and are busy finalizing the details for classes and lectures by Gail Garber and color expert and author Joen Wolfrom for the fall. Details will be on the website soon. We are also very excited to be hosting Gwen Marston in May of 2012. This will be a two day class and lecture, and as soon as we know the details we will post those as well. The Wool Workshop continues over the summer - this is a great opportunity to come and meet with other "wool" folks and get Lauretta's help with whatever you are working on. Beginners and drop ins are also welcome. The workshop is on May 15th this month due to Mother's Day falling on the second Sunday, which is it's usual home.
