Greetings!
"It is hard to be a true individual these days but it's certainly more achievable if you make an item yourself from scratch, putting your own mark on it"

A quick reminder that Peggy Gelbrich's Pickle Dish Class in November is coming up soon,  and for those who have asked, we have now scheduled a class for Lauretta Ehlings' Wool Log Cabin Quilt after the first of the year. We will have a new class schedule for winter coming out in the next few weeks.

One of our recent features about quilt shows from around the world was so popular, that we have decided it will be a regular part of our newsletter. Enjoy!

Please take note - our annual fall sale at the shop is happening in a few weeks....sale is only available for quilters shopping at the shop, the sale is not valid online. However online shoppers should watch for the launch of our new website in the next month or so and the great deals that will be available to introduce quilters to the new website.

Architectural and Design Inspiration

Treehouse by Mt. Fuji Architects
Not only is the interior of the house amazing, but it is a wonderfully innovative use of a very small- oddly shaped parcel of land. Click on the picture of the house on the left for a slideshow.

Stools by Claire-Anne O'Brien, these make me squirm a little, the images these textures evoke are not quite comfortable.

WDL- which is a veritable treasure trove of inspiration from architectural elements and stunning photography.

Don't forget....you can use your computer and google for color and design inspiration.........just type in the colors and or design you want to start with, click "images" on the left hand side of the screen and you will get hundreds of images featuring your request. Try purple and orange, or black and white and green. Try magenta flowers or blue stained glass.
New Fabrics
Word Play

Wide Backings

New wide backings, just in time to finish off all of those Christmas Projects. Did you know that you can use the navigation bar at the top of the fabric images to organize the images on our website. Just choose "newest" and you can always see the latest additions to any fabric collection, designer or theme.

Arnold's Attic
Arnold's Attic by Barbara Brackman for Moda is a collection based on fabric sent to Barbara from her pen pal Arnold Hegy Savage. The fabric that Barbara received was from the attic of Arnold's 1840 house in which his mother, aunt and grandmothers quilted and collected fabric. All of the fabrics in this collection are names after Arnold's family members.

Featured Teacher
Peggy Gelbrich

Peggy Gelbrich
Peggy Gelbrich will be teach at Quilted Strait on Friday, November 4th

For over 30 years, Peggy has been quilting and helping others catch the "quilting bug." Teaching and sharing the art of quilt making is her passion. She has taught quilt making in Alaska, Washington, California, Idaho and Oregon, teaching large guild classes, quilting retreats, quilt shops and small private groups in her home.

Because of her expertise and attention to detail, Peggy has made quilts that have won many awards and accepted for showing at the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilter's show in Seattle. Her quilt, "Roses for Travis and Sharon" is pictured in the book, "Rose Sampler Supreme," by Rosemary Mahkan. She was recently published in Quilter's Newsletter and Fonz and Porter's Love of Quilting magazines.

Peggy loves all types of quilting but traditional quilts are her favorite. Her preferred stitching methods are machine piecing, hand quilting, needle-turn appliqué and crazy quilting. She is accredited to teach the Thimblelady method of hand quilting.

She enjoys the challenge of learning and experimenting with different techniques in the quilt making process, always looking for an easier way to conquer those seemingly difficult patterns.

Originally from Oregon travels took Peggy to Ketchikan, Alaska for 22 years with husband Ron and three children, Travis, Ian and Allison. After Alaska the Gelbrichs spent five years in Washington and are now back home in Oregon. The kids are grown now and grandchildren have been added to the Gelbrich family; all the more people to receive and share in this love of quilting.
