"It is hard to be a true individual these days
but it's certainly more achievable if you make an item yourself from scratch,
putting your own mark on it"
Yes, we always say it....the summer is going by so quickly, but it really is. We are still working on adding inventory to our new space (and therefore the website also). We are now carrying all of the Gentle Art Shaker Threads as well as their sampler threads. We are also working on new covers for our patterns.....you can see the work in progress at our blog. The other wonderful thing about summer here at the shop is the number of quilters we get to meet from other places...from all over the United States and Canada as well as quilters from Europe, Australia, and most recently quilters from South Africa as well. Celebrate quilting....grab a cup of tea and give yourself a treat and click on the links below to view come of the wonderful quilts from quilt shows around the world! Piecefully, Kris You no longer need to sign up for our newsletter drawing each month - if you are receiving the newsletter you are automatically included in the drawing. | Grunge from Basic Grey |
Grunge, in the paper art and digital worlds is all about weathered or worn textures that create an atmosphere - and in the world of paper and scrap booking, Basic Grey Design Studio is known for their expert and sophisticated designs and grunge textures. Now, they have created these textures in fabrics, and it seems like every time we go to the shelves in the shop to look for ideas for coordinates for a customer we come back with one of the bolts of these wonderful Grunge textures from Basic Grey design studio. These fabrics are wonderfully dimensional and play well with contemporary prints as well as reproductions and novelty prints. The fabrics have layers of color - the texture is that of weathered, hand rubbed paint. We also have, Fruitcake, Basic Grey's newest Christmas line. The collection features the rich colors and weathered textures we love in the Grunge Basics! |

One Block Wonder author Maxine Rosenthal
| Maxine Rosenthal will be teaching Cubes, Hollow or Otherwise in September at Quilted Strait. Maxine started quilting about fifteen
years ago. She used to make clothing, but never anything as large or as
time-consuming as a quilt. Maxine did many things before quilting. She
had a career writing computer software, and even took a break from that
to learn furniture refinishing, which she considered a walk through
history. She was commissioned to make a quilt for the movie Grumpier Old
Men, and still has a copy of the check from Warner Bros. But, like
many, her appearance ended up on the cutting-room floor. Maxine started
making kaleidoscope blocks with hexagons and octagons almost as soon as
she began quilting. Maxine resides in Minnesota

Perfect Borders
|
Do you know about this? Look what our neighbor Mech Watne does!

Perfect Borders
is a great tool for designing custom quilt borders.
With Perfect Borders, you can design a custom pantograph or border
design perfectly
scaled and sized for your quilt, instantly download it, and print it
right on your own printer. You choose the size and the design and the
website does the rest! No templates or reducing or enlarging images
on a photocopier, and/or "scootching" templates along as you quilt.
With Perfect Borders, you get a design
that's perfectly scaled and sized for your quilt! There's no math!
Use the pantograph on your own midarm or longarm machine or create the exact design you want and send the
pantograph along with your quilt to your quilter.
You can also
transfer these designs to use on your home machine - here some ideas to
transfer your designs and Mech has some more ideas on her website.
- Print patterns directly onto Foundation
Paper. Stitch though pattern and tear away pattern.
- Print
patterns directly onto Water Soluble Foundation Paper. Stitch though
pattern, tear away excess, then dissolve any remaining paper.
- Stitch though pattern with a large needle (no thread). Use punched paper as a pounce pattern....more info
Perfect Borders provides all of the software so all you need is an Internet
connection and a printer. |

Take a look we also have more new Christmas fabrics.......
Hallowgraphix by Jason Yenter for In the Beginning Fabrics. These prints are just wonderful. I was not going to buy any more of the "graphix" collections from In the Beginning, we have had so many, but I just couldn't resist these wonderful prints. Right now, we have all of the prints in stock, and there is a link to a great free pattern on the collection page as well. Silhouette from Northcott Fabrics. This is a striking Asian Black and White Group which includes a 2 1/2 inch "stripit" fabric. Sew Chick from Benartex is bit urba and a bit folk. The tiny
city birds, are great with black and white prints. Think aprons and bags! Nutmeg from Robert Kaufman Fabrics features Autumn prints with an extra splash. Take at look at our blog to see the new table runners we have in the shop from the Nutmeg Fabrics. and more new patterns and kits.... |
