"It is hard to be a true individual these days but it's certainly more
achievable if you make an item yourself from scratch, putting your own
mark on it"
I have not done any Redwork in years, but am enjoying the soothing pace and rhythm of creating the blocks for the Flight of Fancy Quilt from Meg Hawkey at Crabapple Hill. This is one of the Block of the Month Quilts we are offering in 2010. Check below for more Block of the Month options. Notice that we have made plans to mail patterns so that customers who are close to both our old and new locations can participate in our "pattern only" Block of the Month Quilts.
The January classes have been posted on the website and some classes from February and March are now listed there also. We are starting another Beginner's Sampler class in January and while this will be the last Beginner's Sampler class held at our Port Angeles location, Lauretta will continue to teach this class our Port Gamble store. The first Beginner's Sampler class in Port Gamble is scheduled to begin in September 2010.

Beautiful and Useful Things to Make with Fabric Scraps including Fabric covered Thumbtacks!
Make a Rag Rug - the simplest method that does not require any knowledge of knitting or crocheting is the "toothbrush" rag rug.
Fabric collage and pictures - make a fabric collage based on a picture or photograph or even create a work of art with your used paint rags. These fabric pictures have an entirely different soft watercolor look and the artist now has a website where you can see more of her pictures.
Altered Fabric Books - use a fabric covered board book to celebrate a special friend or family member.
Fabric Covered Thumbtacks I am not sure how beautiful these thumbtacks are, but they are certainly useful!
Fabric Bookmarks Lots of quick and easy bookmark ideas, they all use slightly different construction and finishing techniques. Pick your favorite scraps and adapt the techniques to suit yourself. Here is a bookmark from anna maria horner and a short description of a technique for making bookmarks using vintage fabric. Also check out these quick tutorials for frayed edge bookmarks and pinked edge bookmarks.
