Dear - Welcome to Xenergie's May Newsletter:
What does it Mean to Transform an Organisation?
It is now widely recognised and accepted that the traditional concerns of business - profit, performance, productivity, and competitiveness - can no longer be divorced from human behaviour. However, it is no longer sufficient to just focus on behaviour alone.
Change is no longer just "out there" in the form of different strategies and work practices. Most importantly, it is "in here". Deep change, what we define as 'transformational' change is a phenomenon with exterior and interior dimensions and it is a continuous process of actively engaging in transform-ing, rather than a project or learning event about transformation.
For the first time in Ireland, Xenergie is hosting a public workshop with the Grubb Institute of Behavioural Studies, who have helped organisations around the world to work with complex issues around transforming. Xenergie and Grubb introduce a 1-day introductory Organisational Analysis workshop focusing on the interior dimensions of systems in transformation.
Learn what it means to analyse the "interior dimension" from a deeper level of systemic awareness - we have a few places left due to exterior 'disruptions' from the ash cloud. More information and booking online.

3 Reasons Why Transformation Fails and How to Build a Business Transformation Team by Lorna McDowell, organisation risk analyst and transformation mentor & coach supervisor
A) Summary of situation: - 75% change management programmes fail - Public sector 20% cuts in spending - Expectations of more for less - Radical change and predicted de-layering of public sector - Need for innovation not just improvement - Departments, divisions and companies fighting for survival
Never before such a demand for transformation - but grid locked by the existing culture
B) 3 reasons for failure 1. Unfamiliarity with the terrain leads to an oversimplification of the situation, insufficient thinking and resource, confusion, lost direction - a lack of proper preparation 2. Reluctance to enter the chrysalis leads to procrastination or avoidance through fear of the abyss 3. Premature and non supported flight (i.e. Lack of specialist support, review - time to build, nurture and grow internal capability)

First Public Workshop in Ireland !! REMINDER FEW PLACES REMAINING: Unlock Cultural Gridlock: Organisation Analysis Workshop
Release the Capacity to Make a Difference - Working Above, Around, Below the Surface of the Organisation
1 Day Organisation Analysis workshop with John Bazalgette, The Grubb Institute of Behavioural Studies UK, and Lorna McDowell, Xenergie on Thursday June 10th, 9.30 am to 5pm, Dublin, Ireland
An introduction to the concept of Person-in-Role and integral organisation analysis as a process for turning around real world problems and complex cultures that seem to be in gridlock.
Today's challenges cannot be solved by yesterday's solutions. Culture is the key to being able to survive and thrive as we enter a new age and now is the time to look deeper at what is happening inside your organisation.
In this one day workshop, learn how organisational psychodynamic analysis - as distinct from personal psychoanalysis - helps an organisation unlock cultural dilemmas that are stagnating potential and holding people back.

Finding Freedom To Make A Difference White Paper by John Bazalgette and Colin Quine, Senior Organisational Analysts and Faculty members of the Grubb Institute's MA Programme in Organisational Analysis.
The challenge
During the deepest world recession for generations, brought about by a loss of what has been called 'moral compass', every organisation in Ireland, as elsewhere, is now faced with questions about the wider validity of their overall purpose. At the same time there has been an overall loss of confidence in conventional thinking about business which seems itself to have contributed to the failure. As Kate Kellaway of the Financial Times says "The decline of the MBA will cut off the supply of bullshit at source." She warns that 2010 will see a big rise of the 'cowboys, spivs and villains' like those who took advantage of the banking crisis in Britain in the 70s. These dangers pose a challenge of integrity and competence to those who are coaching and consulting to anxious and heavily burdened executives.
