Good afternoon. Congratulations on a solid weekend of baseball. Adding the ABC league games last Saturday (10/6) was extremely productive. I spent Saturday morning at the ball park watching the ABC Giants vs ABC Sox. I was encouraged by the professionalism of both teams, coaches and parents.
Baseball will help teach many life lessons and it is our desire that ABC be more that just a "name" on a jersey or simply an outlet to learn/play baseball. Throughout life you will be on many "teams", most will not require you to wear a jersey (family, work, study groups, etc). Below is a short list of a few intangibles that I hope your ball player is beginning to develop or has already mastered and is looking for more challenges:
- no excuses
- know where to be and when; arrive 5 minutes early (minimum)
- look people in the eye
- yes sir / no sir
- talk on the ball field, communicate with authority
Five examples are plenty for today. I look to build on this list as we continue together on our journey.
Game notes from 10/7
I encourage you to spend some time reading not only the notes posted for your team, but also the notes other coaches have posted. One of your goals should be to become a student of the game. Check fall home page for link. I challenge each player to make it a personal goal to be recognized as the player who made a Strong Impression. Not all ball players have the ability to become the weekend MVP, but we all posses the ability to become an invaluable asset to our team, and more importantly, an invaluable asset to your coaches. Championships are not won with 9 "MVP's" or "Superstars". They are won with each player playing their role and striving to turn in a Strong Performance every time out.
Weekend game times (10/14)
Game times for Sunday have been posted. Please check individual team pages for game times & location (all ABC teams are scheduled to play).
Looking ahead (Nov-Jan)
The ABC staff and I view the winter semester as a critical time of the year in the preparation for a break out spring season. November 1st starts a 90 day count down to the spring baseball. Our goal is to have ABC ball players segway into the spring season on a high-note, void of any peaks & valley's, burn out, or the need to play "catch up" on any extended lay offs. We feel a consistent, calculated, and appropriate routine is the best way to ensure that you have the edge over other teammates and competition. Often times we discount the mental advantages to having a steady, consistent baseball routine year-round. There is no question that our bodies (and minds) need relief from the in-season demands, so workouts and daily routines are and should be appropriately adjusted. With a consistent, year-round routine, you will have the mental confidence that you have prepared well. Done all that you could have done to prepare for success. The ABC staff has your VERY best interest in mind. Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. We want you to peak during the spring baseball season.
I will be sending more info about what you can expect during the Nov-Jan semester. Below are a few data points:
- Each month will have a theme and all training/development will funnel back to that theme (ex: November SAQ with focus on SPEED; batting will focus on POWER)
- ABC World Series games
- field clinics
- skills testing
