"Success is not a matter of luck or genius. Success depends on adequate preparation and determination" -unknown

ABC Nation,

Those who spend time around me know that I love a great story. I can think of so many heart warming - give you goose bumps stories and testimonies when I read the quote above. Great stories are laced with individuals who prepare for success and are determined to not let anything stand in the way. I present these question for you to reflect upon:

  • How prepared are you for the work load and grind of the summer season? Pitchers, is your arm in the best shape ever and ready to pitch deep into games? Have you been taking care of your body this spring (stretching, running, core training, ect) so that you will not break down or have a drop off in performance due to fatigue come late July. Position players, are you prepared to compete for playing time? The ABC program mirrors your current environment where coaches are looking to play the best nine. Focus on earning the respect of your coaches and teammates and the details will fall into place.
  • How determined are you? A little determined to be on time, hustle, participate with enthusiasm, do what ever is asked - or - allot determined on having a "coming out party" this summer and start creating a buzz that will be heard loud and clear in baseball circles.

I encourage you (players, parents, friends of the organization) to take a minute to read about a former ABC player who made sure that every single person who watched him play would remember his jersey number and/or name. He was a walking, breathing, living definition of preparation and determination.

SWINGTHERAPY classroom session last Sunday

Prater - SWINGTHERAPY workshop

A room full of people gathered on Sunday for the "Group Therapy" session: Essential Mental Skills for success as a hitter. We covered allot of material and there was excellent group participation. I gave the group the absolute best advise you will ever hear related to how to hit off-speed pitches....drum roll.......you'll have to attend the next session.

what happens next

I am in the process of updating a master calendar (Google calendar) for the ABC website that will detail all events and activities for our summer program (weekly indoor workshops, field clinics, team field practices, game day weekends, etc). This calendar will serve as a primary resource to help you and your family stay on top of activities. Each ABC team will have their own team page with specific game day / tournament information.

Indoor training workshops will begin the week of Monday, May 14th. By design, we encourage ball players to take the first week of May off to recharge your battery and enjoy some free time after school with family and friends. The spring has been a grind and our desire is that when you come through the door the week of May 14th, you're refreshed and chomping at the bit. There will be optional workouts prior to the 14th for those who would like to get in some reps as well as a couple of field clinic opportunities, classroom workshops, and meetings. You will be receiving a weekly workshop online registration link early next week.

  • May: ball players will attend one indoor training session on Monday or Tuesday and one indoor training session on Wednesday or Thursday; Sunday field clinics & ABC scrimmages

indoor sessions are 5:00-6:00, 6:00-7:00 or 7:00-8:00

each session is limited to 12 players

  • June & July: ball players will attend one indoor session on Monday or Tuesday, field practice on Wednesday, one indoor session on Thursday, tournaments on weekends
  • ABC ball players have unlimited access to the indoor academies for extra work
  • Each ball player and a parent (or both) will be required to attend a summer ball orientation where we will be discussing the indoor training session itinerary & goals, game day expectations & protocol, and how to ensure that you thrive in the ABC program this summer. Several orientation dates will be on the master calendar
  • Tournament weekends: June 8-10, June 15-17, June 22-24 (off weekend June 29-July 1st) July 6-8, July 13-15, July 20-22
  • The ABC summer uniform fee is $100 (two game jersey's, two game hats, one practice shirt). Uniforms will be paid for and picked up at our business office (4515 Manchaca rd)

Please know that I am happy to sit down with you one on one if you have any topics you would like to discuss. We appreciate and respect your decision to share your baseball experience with ABC. Please hold the staff accountable to deliver on our purpose statement:

Develop impact varsity players through innovative training, weekly workshops and game day experience
