ASU-SBDC eNEWSLETTER

 SEPTEMBER 2011

Greetings!

Are you a female business owner or business professional? Do you want to be one?

Then don't miss the 13th Annual Women's Business Roundtable Event coming up September 13th!  The event will be from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Historic Cactus Hotel, and you are invited.

The Women's Business Roundtable Event is dedicated to providing professional business women and business owners from San Angelo and West Texas a memorable and valuable evening just for them. The event will include vendor/exhibitor booths, a catered dinner, presentations from local women business owners, desserts, goody bags, door prizes and round-table discussions. And it's a lot of fun!

This year's theme is "Connecting: The Best Step to Success," and we will be focusing on the importance of networking. Not only is networking a powerful business tool, but it also is important to maintaining healthy personal relationships.

This year's signature Roundtable topics will include Business Start-Up, Customer Service, Doing Business Downtown, Employee Relations, Financing, Networking, Recordkeeping, SBA Resources, Tax Compliance and ADA Compliance.

And who doesn't like goodies and prizes? Our generous vendors, sponsors and attendees provide goodies that we use to stuff a special bag for each woman to take home. Also, larger prizes that have been donated are given away by a drawing during the course of the evening.

Would you like to join us this year? Registration forms can be found on the event website! Registration deadline is September 9th and registration is required so don't wait!

SSFEATURED SUCCESS STORY

Owner: Christi EngleIf the Shoe Fits
Business: If the Shoe Fits
Nature of Business: Comfort Shoe Store and Boutique
Advisor: Cindy Hartin

As the owner of a medical equipment company and as a Certified Pedorithist, Christi saw many clients with specific shoe needs that would purchase their shoes either online or in other markets. Christi began researching the possibility of opening her own comfort shoe store right here in San Angelo.

Christi started working on a business plan with the help of SBDC Business Advisor, Cindy Hartin. They worked through the strengths and challenges of a high style comfort shoe store. Christi researched locations and potential customers for name brand comfortable shoes. Christi developed relationships with vendors and planned her inventory based on the needs of her customers.

Christi opened her store, If the Shoe Fits in May 2011 and immediately started attracting customers for her brand name shoes such as Naot, Think!, Dansko, Clarks, Born and others. The staff at the store is well educated and will fit each customer with appropriate size and style to support proper foot care.

"The SBDC helped our business develop and execute a business plan, financial forecast model and marketing plan. The business advisor continues to help promote our business growth."

If the Shoe Fits is located at 2412 College Hills Boulevard, Suite 2200 in San Angelo.
