Angela Mirra & Tucker Foehl Clambake Club July 7, 2007
Among the bustle of a busy Brooklyn park, the world stood still as Tucker Foehl, son of Betsy and Stephen Foehl of New Haven, New Jersey, popped the question with a one-of-a-kind engagement ring created by a local Newport designer. Angela Mirra immediately accepted his proposal and wedding plans went into full swing. The couple knew they wanted to return to Newport, Angela's hometown, because as she says, "We wanted to share the sanctity and natural beauty of coastal Rhode Island with our friends and family." Some 20 years ago, Angela's mother, Judy and stepfather, Jacko Allpress of Newport, enrolled her in summer camp at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. It is the piece of land to which she credits her passion for all things natural and healthy. Little did she know that in July of 2007 she would return to the fields of the 300-acre wildlife refuge to sanctify her marriage. The couple exchanged vows in the midst of the tall sweeping grass, under the warm sun and among the songs of the birds. Following the ceremony, guests paused for a brief champagne toast in the field beyond the nuptial site, which holds breathtaking views of Second Beach. The couple wanted the feeling of being surrounded by nature throughout the day, so they chose fresh moss, dried horsetails and live wheat grass budding out of square vase centerpieces at the Clambake Club reception. Angela says of her reception locale that, "the ocean is so spectacular right where you cocktail and have dinner. You are literally standing on a small cliff with the ocean crashing below you. We didn't need anything else." The occasion was splashed with the colors of melon, papaya and moss green; from the bridesmaids own choice of distinctive dress to the florals bursting with roses, ranunculus and lilies. A fresh summer theme continued to the menu, where guests were served summer sweet pea soup, native striped bass, flavorful sea beans and passion fruit melon sorbet for dessert. For a personalized touch, olive branches, a symbol of peace, were worn as boutonnieres to honor Angela's father, Antonio Mirra's, Italian nationalism. Looking back on her special day, Angela adds, "The local people we worked with in Newport were amazing - very fresh and innovative and willing to work outside the box." Now back in their New York residence, the couple "looks forward to taking on challenges together and having fun this first year of marriage."-LC

Wedding Wardrobe
While you are hard at work planning your own nuptials, we bet that you have been added to the guest list of a few other weddings this summer. Between deciding on a location, planning the reception, and finding the perfect gown, who has time to worry about what they are going to wear to someone else's wedding? Here are some tips to help you look fresh and fabulous in all of your friend's photo albums.
- Make sure not to outshine the bride
- We know this is an obvious one, but don't wear white!
- Dress comfortably so that you will have a good time
- Be sensible with your shoes- don't wear four-inch heels to a beach wedding and flip-flops to a formal one- for a nice day-time wedding a wedge or an espadrille will look great
- Tell your hubby-to be that it is always proper to wear a tie- he can't go wrong with a nice dark suit
- A hat can compliment an outdoor wedding outfit but don't go overboard, leave the tiaras and elaborate headpieces to the bride
- A simple black dress is always a classic but don't forget to accessorize!
